Jordy Clasie Career

Club career

Clasie joined the youth Feyenoord Academy (Varkenoord) as a 9-year-old in the summer of 2000 and progressed through the ranks to the Feyenoord / Excelsior U19s. The Haarlem-born youngster went out on loan to Excelsior in the summer of 2010.

Clasie made his professional debut for Excelsior in the Rotterdam derby victory over Feyenoord (3–2) on August 15, 2010.

Clasie was welcomed into Feyenoord's first-team squad at the start of the 2011–12 season, and incoming coach Ronald Koeman handed over the youngster's spot in the starting lineup right away. In a friendly game against Málaga on July 31, 2011, he made his Feyenoord debut. He soon became one of the most popular players among the supporters thanks to his good play and tenacity.

Clasie signed a new deal until 2018 on August 29, 2014, a day after Clasie helped Feyenoord qualify for the group stage of the UEFA Europa League. Clasie explained that he was keen on growing as a member of the team as well as working with the team as a whole.

However, Clasie signed for Southampton on a five-year contract for a fee in the region of £8 million on July 15, 2015. This meant he'd join Ronald Koeman, who brought him into the Feyenoord first team, once more.

Southampton's chief, Claude Puel, was appointed in the summer of 2016. In a 2–0 victory over Arsenal in the EFL Cup on November 30, Clasie scored his first goal for the club on September 30th. Southampton's ingenuity made the Saints advance to the League Cup final of 2017, where they eventually emerged as runners up.

In a 1–0 victory over West Bromwich Albion on 8 April 2017, he scored his first Premier League goal.

Clasie joined Club Brugge on loan for the 2017-2018 season from August 30th.

Feyenoord's midfielder resurrects Feyenoord on loan for the remainder of the 2018-19 season.

Clasie signed a two-year contract with AZ Alkmaar on July 22, 2019, relocating Southampton on a free transfer.

International career

He was selected for the Netherlands U21 squad in November 2010, two months after his debut for Excelsior. Bert van Marwijk, the Dutch coach of the first team's first team, expressed his interest in Clasie in February 2012. He was told that his name was on the stand-by list for Euro 2012 because he was on the stand-by list.

Clasie was part of Louis van Gaal's 23-man team in Brazil for 2014 FIFA World Cup, where the Dutch finished third, defeating defending champions Spain and hosts Brazil. He made two appearances in the tournament, starting as a replacement for Nigel de Jong in the semi-finals against Argentina and the hosts' third place game against the hosts, which the Dutch won 3–0 comfortably.

In the Europa Conference League semi-finals, AZ Alkmaar will not be pushed over for West Ham

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 11, 2023
By Dutch standards, AZ Alkmaar is regarded as a modest club. They compare favorably to Ajax, Feyenoord, and PSV Eindhoven, with just two Ethical titles and one European final appearance in their history. However, West Ham should have no doubts about the challenge in the Europa Conference League semi-finals, which starts on Thursday night. AZ must always strive to excel without the same fame or resources as the Netherlands' top three, and they do.
