Johnathan Lee Joseph (born April 16, 1984) was an American football cornerback for the Houston Texans of the National Football League (NFL).

He played college football at South Carolina and was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft.

Personal life

Joseph attended the University of South Carolina as a criminal justice major. Delaina and his wife, Delaina, live in Houston, Texas. Joseph has three children; Johnathan II, and Danae are among them; He is of Haitian descent. Joseph Joseph's father, John Joseph, worked at a cotton mill for more than 30 years and died in 2014 at the age of 76 after suffering from emphysema that developed into lung cancer due to being a smoker. He owes it to his father for shaping him into the man he is today and instilling core values. Joseph does regularly practice yoga and pilates to help his body cope with age.

College career

Joseph began his college football career at Coffeyville Community College in Coffeyville, Kansas, in 2003. College Football News named him as the country's best JUCO player and earned all-conference awards. Joseph had three interceptions, one for a touchdown and the other for 43 tackles. In addition, he was fired and two pass break-ups.

Joseph played for the South Carolina Gamecocks football team in 2004 and 2005, then transferred to the University of South Carolina, where he competed for the South Carolina Gamecocks football team in 2004 and 2005. In his first game against Vanderbilt and forcing a fumble, he started on the cornerback his first two games of the 2004 season. Joseph broke his foot against the Georgia Bulldogs in the first quarter and spent the remainder of the year recovering his injury.

Joseph, his partner and fellow defensive back Ko Simpson, were supposed to have a good season in 2005. Professional career

Joseph was not regarded as a high-profile prospect a year before the NFL Draft, and he wasn't on any big boards because he was still an underclassman and only had played two games at South Carolina. After playing well in 2005, he began to build his reputation. Joseph was recruited to the NFL Combine, and after running a 4.31-40-yard dash, his draft stock immediately soared. He was forecast as a first or second-round pick by scouting and analysts. Joseph was ranked as the third best cornerback by NFLDraftScout.com.

Joseph was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the first round (24th overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft. He was the third cornerback selected in the first round (15th Tye Hill, 19th Antonio Cromartie).

Joseph was signed by the Bengals to a five-year, $8.10 million deal with no guarantee and a signing bonus of $1.09 million. He began training camp with veteran Tory James and Deltha O'Neal for a starting cornerback role. Joseph was the third cornerback on the depth chart behind O'Neal and James, and he was named the nickelback.

Joseph got off to a winning 23-10 victory over O'Neal in the season's opener against the Kansas City Chiefs and finished with three solo tackles. Joseph played in his third game and made five solo tackles in a 31–16 victory over the New Orleans Saints on November 12, 2006. He took over Deltha O'Neal's shoulder injury this week and will miss the following three games. Joseph was still the starter the remainder of the season. In a 13-7 victory over the Baltimore Ravens in Week 13, he had seven combined tackles and a season-high four pass deflection. In a 23-17 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on December 31, 2006, Joseph had a season-high ten combined tackles and two pass deflections.

Joseph played in 16 games and nine starts in his rookie season (45 solo) and 20 pass break-ups.

Joseph was expected to be the Bengals' starting cornerback after Tory James' departure from free agency and Deltha O'Neal's shoulder surgery in the offseason. With the Bengals' drafted cornerback Leon Hall as the 18th overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft, he faced competition for his starting position. Joseph was named the starting right cornerback, opposite Deltha O'Neal, to begin the season. Hall and O'Neal were the starters for the Baltimore Ravens' season-opener against the Baltimore Ravens, but Joseph had two combined tackles in the 27-20 victory. In a 51-45 loss to the Cleveland Browns, he made his first appearance of the season and had three solo tackles. Joseph made five combined tackles and intercepted Chad Pennington for his first pick of his career on October 21, 2007. He returned it for a 42-yard touchdown and helped beat the New York Jets by a score of 38–31. As the Bengals defeated the Titans 35–6, he had five combined tackles, three pass deflections, and intercepted Vince Young. During a 24–10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, Joseph made a season-high seven solo tackles and intercepted Ben Roethlisberger's pass. In a 19–14 victory, he made a season-high tying seven combined tackles and intercepted Cleveland Browns quarterback Derek Anderson. Joseph finished the 2007 season with 62 combined tackles (49 solo), 15 pass deflections, four interceptions, and a touchdown. With four interceptions, he came in second on the team, behind Leon Hall's five interceptions.

Leon Hall and Joseph were the Bengals' starting lineup after Deltha O'Neal was fired during free agency. He was named left cornerback to begin the regular season.

Joseph started the season-opener against the Baltimore Ravens and made five tackles and three pass deflections, as well as recovering Ray Rice's fumble and return it for a 65-yard touchdown in a 17–10 loss. In a 26–14 loss to the New York Jets, he missed three games (Weeks 3–5) due to an ankle injury and returned as a starter in Week 6. Joseph made six combined tackles and a pass deflection, intercepted Ben Roethlisberger and returned it for a 30-yard touchdown on September 27, 2008, en route to a 22-19 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. In a 23-20 victory over the Cleveland Browns, he made two solo tackles, a pass deflection, and intercepted Derek Anderson. Joseph had three solo tackles, a pass deflection, and intercepted Joe Flacco in a 17–14 win over the Baltimore Ravens during a Week 5 matchup. He had three straight games with an interceptor, which was the longest streak of his career. In a 23-13 loss to the Detroit Lions, he made a season-high eight solo tackles and a pass deflection. With a 10–6 record, the Bengals finished atop the AFC North. Joseph made five tackles in the 24–14 loss to the New York Jets in the AFC Wildcard game, but Joseph did not make five combined tackles. Joseph was welcomed by USA Today to their annual "All-Joe" team, which honors quality players who don't get their due. Joseph began the season-opener and led the Miami Dolphins by 30–10 with five combined tackles and a pass deflection, as well as intercepted Ryan Tannehill. The Texans agreed to a two-year, $13.50 million deal with a $11.50 million guarantee on June 18, 2015.

Joseph was out in a 27-20 loss against the Kansas City Chiefs in the season-opener and had four solo tackles as well as a pass deflection. In a 10–6 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on November 16, 2015, Joseph made four solo tackles, a pass deflection, and intercepted Andy Dalton. During a 24-21 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars on November 13, 2016, Joseph had a season-high eight solo tackles and a pass deflection. He made four solo tackles against the Green Bay Packers on Week 13, but the third quarter of the 21–13 loss was postponed due to a rib injury. Joseph was unable to participate in the next two games due to two broken ribs and a bruised lung.

Joseph finished the season with 45 combined tackles (38 solo), nine pass deflections, and his first season in his career without an interception in 13 games and 11 starts. With a 9-7 record, the Texans finished at the top of the AFC South. In a 27–14 AFC Wildcard victory over the Oakland Raiders on January 7, 2017, Joseph made ten solo tackles and three pass deflections.

In a 42–34 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, Joseph had a season-high six combined tackles in Week 5. During a 33–17 win over the Cleveland Browns, he had three combined tackles, a season-high three pass deflections, two interceptions, and a touchdown. In the second quarter, Joseph returned an interception by Kevin Hogan that was supposed for Duke Johnson and resulted in an 82-yard touchdown. He was named the week's Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in Week 6. Joseph finished the 2017 season with 47 combined tackles (37 solo), nine pass deflections, two interceptions, and a touchdown. Pro Football Focus gave him a 75.7 overall rating, which ranked 65th out of all qualifying cornerbacks in 2017.

On March 15, 2018, Joseph Joseph agreed to a two-year, $10 million deal with a three-year, $100 million promise.

Joseph intercepted Nathan Peterman late in the fourth quarter and returned it for a 28-yard touchdown to win the game 20-13.
