Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz (born August 18, 1956) is a drummer best known for his work with the singer-songwriter "Weird Al" Yankovic.
The two met on "Another One Rides the Bus" at the Dr. & Co.
On September 14, 1980, the Demento show opened in Delmonto, California.
Schwartz was welcomed to join his band "Bermuda Schwartz" ("a play on the words "Bermuda shorts") and the pair have worked together ever since.
Schwartz appears on all of Yankovic's albums, videos, and concerts.
Early life
Schwartz grew up in Phoenix despite being born in Chicago. He came from a musical family; his father was a guitarist and piano player, and his brother, session guitarist and producer Richard Bennett, has performed with many well-known artists in Los Angeles and Nashville; and Mark Knopfler has spent time touring and recording with him.
Schwartz began drumming in 1965, and by the mid-1970s, he had begun playing regularly with a few bands and doing some recording work.
Later life
Schwartz first saw "Weird Al" Yankovic at the Dr. Demento Show on KMET in Los Angeles, September 14, 1980. Since 1981, he has performed drums at every "Weird Al" show, except for three shows on the 2003 Poodle Hat Tour; a minor illness barred him from playing the drums; bassist Steve Jay's brother and collaborator Pete Gallagher, who was working as a tech on the tour, sat-in on the drums, while Schwartz handled the electronics, cues, and vocals from behind the drum riser.
Schwartz is also the official band historian, who has compiled an unsurpassed number of unique retail and streaming video products from around the world that feature "Weird Al" Yankovic either as a performer or producer in a cameo appearance, or as a character or photograph on the product. Schwartz has an unmatched number of photographs, memorabilia, and information about his time with Yankovic, and he is often searched for rare and unusual photos, videos, and articles pertaining to Yankovic.
Schwartz continues to perform with other Los Angeles artists and bands, as well as the album Biblical Graffiti, where he appeared on seven of the tracks), Lousy Little Gods, Brian Sisson, Crown City Bombers, and The Zero G Band.
Schwartz has had a reputable online presence since 1993. Schwartz began designing web sites in 1995 and expanded it into a side-business that now includes additional graphic design services, including CD layouts and book cover art. In 1995, he created the official "Weird Al" Yankovic website, which later became weirdal.com. He is an administrator for the World of "Weird Al" Yankovic and Drummerworld forums, and he regularly posts in various forums under the name "bermuda."
Jon converted himself into a published author with Black & White & Weird All Over, a coffee-table book containing his unreleased black-and-white photographs of Weird Al from the 1980s. Lights, Camera, Accordion was He following up. A collection of his color film photographs of Weird Al from 1981 to 2006 was released in 2022.
