John Garcia (born September 4, 1970) is a vocalist and songwriter.
Garcia is best known as the vocalist and founding member of Kyuss, Slo Burn, and Unida.
Garcia recently performed in Vista Chino with former Kyuss drummer Brant Bjork although the band broke up in 2014 after a falling out which caused Garcia to leave the band.
Garcia and Bjork have since decided to continue their individual solo projects, with Garcia releasing his debut album John Garcia on July 25, 2014.
Musical career
Garcia, Brant Bjork, Chris Cockrell, Josh Homme, and Nick Oliveri formed Kyuss (originally known as Katzenjammer and Sons of Kyuss), while still in high school in 1989. The band released five albums in total, three of which featured Garcia on vocals, although all of which featured Garcia on vocals. And the Circus Leaves Town, Kyuss disbanded in October 1995, just three months after releasing the album. On Man's Ruin Records, the now defunct label Man's Ruin Records, which was later re-released on a split CD with Homme's post-Kyuss project Queens of the Stone Age, which was later re-released on a single CD. Kyuss had been on a permanent hiatus ever since. It was announced in November 2010 that Kyuss Lives!, as well as former members Oliveri and Bjork, would be touring Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, with a new studio album following. Bruno Fevery was inserted in place of Homme, who did not want to participate. Kyuss Lives in November 2012, following a complaint brought by Homme and former Kyuss bassist Scott Reeder. Vista Chino was the change of the team's name.
In 1996, Garcia formed the Spanish rock band Slo Burn in Palm Desert, California. Amusing the Amazing was short-lived, despite the fact that the group was embraced by the former Kyuss fanbase. Nine songs were recorded, but the band didn't have enough funds to cover the four tracks, so they were released as an EP. Bootleg copies of the album's remaining 5 tracks are available, unmixed, in varying quality. In 1997, the band appeared at Ozzfest before disbanding later this year due to reasons that were not revealed. Slo Burn reunited 20 years ago in 2017 and went on tour before going on hiatus the following year.
Garcia formed Unida after leaving Slo Burn, which featured former Kyuss bassist Scott Reeder at one point. Unida has released one album, Coping with the Urban Coyote, as well as a split EP with Swedish band Dozer. Unida was signed to Rick Rubin's brand American Recordings and released El Coyote (alternatively known as The Great Divide) in their second album, but was not recognized for commercial success due to company partner Island/Def Jam's inability. The band, on tour, released the album themselves, in the hopes of selling copies at their live shows. Due to touring with his solo band, Unida is currently touring without Garcia.
Garcia began in 1998 with Hermano, a side-project created by producer Dandy Brown. The band has released three studio albums since 2002: Only a Suggestion, Dare I Say, and Into the Exam Room, as well as one live album, Live at W2. Due to Garcia's dedication to his solo project, Hermano is currently on hiatus.
A European tour was announced in early 2010, debuting with a gig at the Roadburn Festival in April. The performances were billed as "Garcia Plays Kyuss," and they consisted mainly of songs from Garcia's former band, Kyuss. His backing band, made up of Belgian and Dutch musicians from Aston, Kong, Celestial Season and Arsenal, and Arsenal. During his appearance at Hellfest on June 20, John Garcia was joined by former Kyuss players Brant Bjork and Nick Oliveri when performing "Gardenia" and "Green Machine" respectively.

The song did moderately well in terms of radio airplay and is extremely popular among fans of The Crystal Method, particularly because of Garcia's howling vocals. Wes Borland, a Limp Bizkit guitarist, played guitar on the song. Garcia has performed the song live with The Crystal Method.
Garcia will reprise his relationship with Homme on December 20, 2005, when the pair of Queens of the Stone Age appeared onstage at the Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles. They performed three Kyuss songs together, including "Thumb," "Hurricane," and "Supa Scoopa and Mighty Scoop." This appearance fuelled Kyuss reunion rumors, but Homme has stated explicitly that a proper Kyuss reunion is unlikely to happen.
Garcia appeared on their third album, Sleep Is the Enemy, in which Garcia contributed vocals to the track "Invisible." He'll be back with Danko Jones on their 2008 album Never Too Loud, with Pete Stahl and others on the track "Forest for the Trees."
Garcia was working on a solo project under the moniker "Garcia Vs Garcia," but has since been postponed indefinitely.
In 2008, John Garcia collaborated with Belgian band Arsenal on their album Lotuk, contributing lyrics and vocals to two tracks, "Not a Man" and "Diggin' a Hole." Arsenal's members shot a video narrating the album's development, which included footage of Garcia riding around in his hometown.
In 2010, he also worked with Karma to Burn in the Two Times song, which is also included in the Appalachian Incantation collection.
