Playing career

Born in Wismar, Streich starred as a striker for Aufbau Wismar from 1957 to 1967, TSG Wismar from 1963 to 1967, Hansa Rostock from 1967 to 1975, and 1. FC Magdeburg played from 1975 to 1985.

He was capped 102 times for East Germany between 1969 and 1984, scoring 55 goals. He had been a member of the FIFA Century Club for a long time, but when FIFA updated rules to no longer include games at the Olympic Games, four of his matches were deleted from his official FIFA record and he dropped out. Streich has 102 caps on their website, according to the German Football Association.

Streich is known as one of East Germany's top players, with multiple appearances and goals scored for the national team. Streich scored 2 goals in four matches in the 1974 FIFA World Cup.

Streich played 378 games in the F.C.'s DDR-Oberliga, during his career. Hansa Rostock and 1. FC Magdeburg has scored a record 229 goals. Four times he was named the top scorer award. In 42 European matches for Rostock (4/0) and Magdeburg (38/17), he has scored 17 goals (including in a 20/20). He received the East German Footballer of the Year award in 1979 and 1983. When he scored six in a game, he tied for the most goals scored in a game. FC Magdeburg defeated BSG Chemie Böhlen 10–2 in August 1977.

Coaching career

Streich managed 1 after he finished his playing career. FC Magdeburg, Eintracht Braunschweig, and FSV Zwickau are among the sporting legends.
