Travon DaShawn Frank Smart (January 13, 1997 – June 18, 2018), better known by his stage name Jimmy Wopo, was an American rapper from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Wopo was a student of fellow Pittsburgh-based rapper Wiz Khalifa and his Taylor Gang imprint.
With his 2016 breakout hit song, "Elm Street," Prod By Stevie B, he made his first high-profile appearance. Complex is included in the "Bout to Blow: 10 Dope New Songs You Should Be Hearing Sooner" series.
Following his success, he collaborated with many well-known rappers, including Wiz Khalifa, Sonny Digital, 21 Savage, and others.
Rae Sremmurd, a rap group, brought Jimmy out to perform at the Pittsburgh stop of the SremmLife 2 Tour after getting a co-sign from Mike Will Made It.
In Pittsburgh's Hill District, Wopo was killed in a drive-by shooting on June 18, 2018.
Career
Wopo began posting original tracks to his SoundCloud account in January 2015. Taylor Maglin, the founder of the Pittsburgh-based blog Daily Loud, collaborated with him and began to publicize his music. On his YouTube channel, this additional push helped him to gain millions of views on his music videos. WorldStarHipHop.com is a website that publishes five of his music videos in 2016. On Daily Loud, he premiered his debut project, Woponese, on July 24, 2016. The single "Back Door" by Sonny Digital appeared on this 8-track mixtape. Riff Raff tapped Wopo for a feature on his Balloween mixtape in October 2016. He and his fellow Pittsburgh-based rapper Hardo unveiled a joint album on November 25, 2016. ShadyHigler, 21 Savage, and Wiz Khalifa were among the nine tracks on this nine-track project.
According to Wopo's manager, up to fifty completed, unreleased songs will be released posthumously.
