Early life
Chaffin was born and raised in Newton, Massachusetts. Chaffin was raised Jewish and her father is from a Jewish family, and her mother, who is of Scottish and English origins, converted to Judaism. Joshua Chaffin, her brother, is a writer for the Financial Times.
Career
She appears regularly at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in Los Angeles, often with her comedy partner Jamie Denbo. Chaffin was known from 2005 to 2008 as the girls' dorm advisor on all four seasons of Nickelodeon's Zoey 101. She worked with Amy Poehler as a writer and voice actor on the animated film The Mighty B! from 2008 to 2009. Chelsea, Portia's cousin, was playing several roles, including that of Chelsea. She appeared on several television shows including 90210, United States of Tara, Man with a Plan, Veep, Episodes, and a Search Party, as well as Spy, Pitch Perfect 3, and Fun Mom Dinner.
