Kate Elizabeth Cameron Maberly (born 14 March 1982) is an English actor, writer, editor, producer, and singer.

She has appeared on film, television, radio, and theatre.

Early life

Maberly was born in Reigate, Surrey, England. She is the daughter of a lawyer and one of five children; her older sister Polly is also an actress. Thomas and Guy, her two older siblings, and Jack, her younger brother, Jack, are among her younger brothers. Maberly attended Dunottar School in Reigate, where she skipped a year and ended with A-levels in maths, chemistry, history, and music.

Maberly began swimming competitively at the age of 5 and was a county champion swimmer up to the age of 16. She completed the BT National Swimathon at 7 years old (as the youngest person to complete the race at the time) raising funds for St Piers Lingfield (Now "Young Epilepsy"), a school that supports Epilepsy patients.

She represented her county in tennis from the age of 12, and the Royal Parks tennis leagues in London from 2004-2010.

Maberly began playing piano at the age of 6, and the Dunottar Chamber Ensemble brought a solo pianist to Venice, Italy, for a performance of Mozart's Piano Concerto no. 14. 23 (K488). She earned a grade 8 in both Piano and Cello as an undergraduate and moved on to Trinity College of Music in London, graduating in 2004 with a joint honours degree in piano and cello. She also composes music and performs jazz, and has performed at Pizza on the Park in London.

Career

Maberly made her debut in 1993 when she appeared as Mary Lennox in the documentary film The Secret Garden. The film, directed by Agnieszka Holland, earned international recognition and has since evolved to become a family's hit. Several subsequent lead roles, including Dinah Bellman, Matthew Morse and Patricia Wettig, Glumdalclitch in Gulliver's Travels, John O'Toole and Kristen Scott Thomas, Ira in Friendship's Field, and Vanessa in Mothertime were among those paved the way for many more.

Maberly has performed voice-overs for Ordynek and the Braniff Pages in 2001 and 2000, in addition to her film career. She has done several radio appearances for BBC Radio 4, including The Dorabella Variation, A Certain Smile, and National Velvet. Catherine Called Birdy, written by Karen Cushman, was awarded an Audience Award in 1995.

Maberly joined forces with a London-area music producer in 2007 to produce a number of her own songs for a new mini album. Maberly demonstrated her musical skills by playing the piano in the 1995 BBC drama Mothertime and playing the cello in the 2004 short film The Audition.
