Jessica Burkhart Life

Jessica Ashley (born January 29, 1987), better known by her pen name Jessica Burkhart, is an American writer.

Burkhart works mainly in the tween fiction style and is the author of the Canterwood Crest series of books.

Personal life and education

Jessica Burkhart, adolescent, developed an interest in equestrianism, which later became a passion for writing. Her freelance work was later featured in a number of magazines, including The Writer. She began studying at the age of 16 and graduated in 2007 with a BA in English from Florida State University.

She wrote a book in 2006 as part of National Novel Writing Month. A literary agent alerted the book while browsing Burkhart's blog and encouraged her to read it, which led to her to sign the author. Taking the Reins, Burkhart's book, went through a series of revisions before being accepted for submission. In May 2007, she signed a four-book contract with Simon & Schuster. As a result, Take the Reins became the first book in the Canterwood Crest series, a tale about disparate schoolgirls participating in equestrian competitions at an academy.

Burkhart published additional books in the series over the year, while still assisting in the promotion of the first one on the internet, mainly via blogging and vlogging. The Canterwood Crest series was later extended. She announced plans to write in the young adult genre under her own name in 2010, while keeping her Middle-grade fiction and maintaining her middle-grade fiction.

Burkhart will also write another middle-grade book, West Coast Prep, it was announced in late 2013. The series follows another group of characters from a riding school in California and was self-published as eBooks. Burkhart also confirmed plans to continue the Canterwood Crest series with just 20 e-novellas.
