Jesse Birdsall Life

Jesse Birdsall (born 13 February 1963) is an English actor best known for his role in "Footballers' Wives" as Richard Webb, as Marcus Tandy, as football manager Roger Webb between 2004 and 2006, as Fraser Black in Hollyoaks and as villain Ron Gregory in a few episodes of The Bill.

Personal life

Derek Birdsall, the son of Penguin Books designer Derek Birdsall, Birdsall attended Hampstead School in north London. Since being married to Only Fools and Horses actress Gwyneth Strong, with whom he has two children, he has been married.

Birdsall has twice been in trouble with the police after being found guilty of real bodily harm after an altercation in 1981, and in 1999, they were fined £1,000 following an unprovoked assault on a fellow customer at a London pub.

Since being born and brought up in the Highbury district, Birdsall has been a supporter of Arsenal.

Career

As a child, Birdsall attended the Anna Scher children's theatre school in Islington, and in his teens appeared in Nanette Newman's children's cooking show Fun Food Factory and several television plays and series, often with his characteristic rockabilly appearance. He had one line as an extra ("Watch it mate!") "Don't Tell them Willie Boy was Here," Willie Boy, a 1980 Minder episode, was broadcast. In 1982, he appeared alongside singer Hazel O'Connor in the TV drama set in a nightclub called Jangles. He first came to widespread public attention in 1984, his first notable television role. He appeared in the films Wish You Were Here (1987), directed by David Leland and co-starring Emily Lloyd, Getting It Right (1989), and Beyond Bedlam (1994). In 1988 music video of Kim Wilde's single Hey Mister Heartache, he appeared.

Marcus Tandy's portrayal in the BBC1 soap opera Eldorado, which lasted only one year from 1992 to 1993 and was described as a notable fail on television. Nonetheless, the amount of coverage the programme received for its apparent low quality and lack of success would bring Birdsall a lot of attention, and from 1995 to 1999, the hit futuristic action/adventure series Bugs would have brought much attention.

In the episode The Remorseful Day, which aired on November 15, 2000, Birdsall appeared as John Barron.

He appeared in an episode of Murder in Mind, S2xE04, in 2002, 'Swansong'. In season 8 episode 6, he appeared in New Tricks as Tony Morgan. In the episodes "Market For Murder" in 2002 as Harry Painter and "Small Mercies," he guest-starred in Midsomer Murders, playing two separate characters. He appeared in several episodes of the ITV police drama The Bill in 2003 as a character named Ron Gregory, and the same network announced him as a regular in series 3–5 of Footballers' Wives.

In 2006, Birdsall appeared as patient Dillon Ellis in two episodes of Holby City before resurrecting as Steven Fletcher, Adrian Fletcher's estranged father.

In two episodes, he appeared in the BBC One soap opera EastEnders in August 2012, as John Hewland, jilted fiancé of Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean).

In Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks, Birdsall appeared as Fraser Black but left the show in spring 2014 following a whodunit storyline in which he was murdered.
