Jack Peter Shepherd (born 14 January 1988) is an English comedian.

Since April 2000, he has played David Platt in the ITV soap opera Coronation Street.

He received the 2018 British Soap Award for Best Actor and the 2008 British Soap Award for Villain of the Year.

Personal life

Shepherd was in a fifteen-year relationship with Lauren Shippey from 2002 to 2017, and the couple have two children together: Nyla, born in 2009, and Reuben, born in 2013.

He is best known for his role as David Platt on Coronation Street alongside co-stars Helen Worth (Gail Platt) and Tina O'Brien (Sarah Platt). Shepherd is earning £200,000 a year for his role on Coronation Street, a much larger sum than longer-serving co-stars Simon Gregson (Steve McDonald) and Sue Nicholls (Audrey Roberts).

Career

Shepherd appeared in episodes of television's Where the Heart Is and Clocking Off, where he co-starred with his future Coronation Street screen sister Tina O'Brien before taking on the role of David.

Shepherd has spent time out of Coronation Street to do theatre work, including Riff's role in a West Side Story performance as part of Stage 84. The Yorkshire School of Performing Arts has a scholarship for artists.
