Jeff Hordley (born Jeffrey Thomas Percy, 7 March 1970) is an English actor best known for his appearance in ITV's long-running soap opera Emmerdale's Cain Dingle.

Early and personal life

Hordley grew up in Oldham, Greater Manchester, where he attended North Chadderton Comprehensive School of Theatre before graduating with a BA (Acting) degree from Manchester Metropolitan University School of Theatre in 1997. Hordley was diagnosed with Crohn's disease in 1996. He has been suffering from symptoms since the age of 20 and has been hospitalized three times due to his illness. In 2003, Hordley married Zoe Henry, a Emmerdale co-star, and Stan Herbert, a boy born in 2005, have two children: a daughter named Violet, born in 2005, and a boy named Stan born in April 2008.

Career

Hordley, who appeared in British soap operas including Coronation Street, was cast as Cain Dingle in the 2000 ITV soap opera Emmerdale. He declared in 2006 that he had left the soap in order to work on other projects; the producers' chances of a return were kept open. He appeared in a Mother Goose revival at the Churchill Theatre in Bromley later this year. He appeared in the George Orwell Classic Animal Farm at Leeds' West Yorkshire Playhouse in 2008, as well as the role of Mick in Harold Pinter's play The Caretaker, which was performed at Bolton's Octagon Theatre in 2009. His return to Emmerdale was announced in 2009. Hordley has been nominated for the British Soap Award for Best Actor three times since his return to England.

Fans of Soap have been divided on Monday's TV Choice Awards, which saw Emmerdale crowned Best Soap, a Soap. In a tense vote by the viewing public, Coronation Street and the BBC One's Doctors and EastEnders edged out over it. Emmerdale won by Jeff Hordley (Cain Dingle) for Best Soap Actor, while Corrie's Maudle (Evelyn Plummer) received Best Soap Actress.

Fans had watched Aaron rage at Cain (Jeff Hordley) and Caleb Dingle (William Ash) earlier this week, after he was announced as the person the brothers had kidnapped and detained in an abandoned farmhouse. Aaron (Danny Miller) escaped the decaying house on Friday and made a dash for the Cain and Caleb's home, where he bundled Chas (Lucy Parsonser) into his vehicle's boot.
