Early life and education
Jarre was born in Albertville, France, and was raised by his single mother, Agnes Jarre. After heading to China at 19, he dropped out of Kedge Business School. He stayed in China for one year, learned to speak English and Chinese, and created various start-up businesses.
Career
Jarre founded several businesses in China, one of which became very popular, and with Christopher Carmichael, he and his colleagues founded Atendy, a software company in Toronto.
He heard of Vine's appearance and created an account on the website while in Toronto. He went back to Paris, France, to start making Vines while still running his company, and later left his company to solely rely on Vine.
Jarre collaborated with the American Refugee Committee (ARC) to produce a new humanitarian model. During the 2017 United Nations General Assembly, Love Army was invited to perform their charitable service at Bill & Melinda Gates foundation event GOALKEEPERS. Bill Gates, Barack Obama, Justin Trudeau, and Malala Yousafzai were among the other presenters. Jerome Jarre, Casey Neistat, and Juanpa Zurita were among the many celebrities on behalf of Love Army and ARC. The ARC team was on the ground with 1000 refugees in eight separate villages, all preparing for a life-changing mobile money transfer. A livestream was hosted between the beneficiaries and the GOALKEEPERS charity, ensuring that everyone attending was able to see exactly where the funds were going. With all of the systems in place, Jerome and his team did something that was a surprise to all in attendance. They requested Bill and Melinda Gates to help them achieve their fundraising target of $1 million after no one warned. The Gates agreed, and Abdirashid Duale, the CEO of Dahabshiil who was in the audience, was able to move the funds from his phone to his bank account. Each and every one of the 1000 beneficiaries received $1000 right away, and the moment was caught on livestream.
On the day Vine was released, Jarre made his first Vine in January 2013. He released a video titled Don't be afraid of love, which became one of the first viral videos on Vine and was on display twice on The Ellen DeGenere Show three months after the initial launch of Vine. He had 20,000 followers six months after launching his Vine account. The majority of his vines feature him playing pranks on strangers. Jarre's account increased from 20,000 followers to 1 million followers in a month after being featured on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Ellen, a tycoon, pleaded for him to cover the 86th Academy Awards' Red Carpet event, where he made several vines with Hollywood celebrities. Later, he was recruited by Canal+ to cover the 2014 Cannes Film Festival. He was one of the jurors of the 6 second film competition at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2014.
Humans, Jarre's project, began in November 2013. "What is the most important message you would like to share with the world right now?" he asks strangers in this series. The videos of this project have been posted under the name of Humans, a Vine account. "This Vine project will bring back your faith in humanity," BuzzFeed's Arielle Calderon said of Jarre's series.
