Career
Spiegel introduced an ephemeral messaging application in April 2011 as a product design class project. Spiegel and Colum Brown collaborated with Stanford classmates Bobby Murphy and Reggie Brown to debut "Picaboo," a play on the term that was later renamed as Snapchat. Spiegel left Stanford to concentrate on Snapchat shortly after completing his degree in 2012, and the app's success soared dramatically. Spiegel's Snapchat app had hit 1 million daily active users by the end of 2012. In 2018, he finished his remaining coursework and graduated.
Spiegel and Murphy agreed in February 2017 to make a tiara of 13,000,000 shares of Class A common stock over the next 15 to 20 years to an arts, education, and youth non-profit.
