Jermall Charlo Career

Early life and amateur career

Jermall is older than his identical twin Jermell by a single minute. Both brothers are graduates of Alief Hastings High School in Houston, Texas. When they started following their father, himself a former boxer, into the gym, they began boxing. Jermall, an amateur, had hoped to be a member of the 2008 Olympic team, but was forced to cancel due to a toe injury. For one year, he competed in the amateur ranks, winning with a record of 65 victories and six losses.

Professional career

Charlo made his professional debut against Cimmaron Davis on August 12, 2008, and the victory was secured by a 2nd-round technical knockout. Charlo defeated Deon Nash on July 11, 2009, the rival his brother Jermell beat and defeated in 2008. Jermall gained a unanimous decision victory and later defeated Nash in a rematch on August 28, 2010; Charlo would win by a corner retirement. Charlo defeated Puerto Rican Carlos Garcia, who had lost a year earlier this year. Both brothers were beaten by a unanimous decision over Garcia. Charlo remained undefeated over the next five years, winning over Orlando Lora, Antwone Smith, and Norberto Gonzalez. Charlo had a winning streak by the end of 2014, with 16 of them winning and no losses.

At The Pearl, Palms Casino in Las Vegas, Charlo defeated Michael Kenneth Finney (12-2-1, 10 KOs) on March 28, 2015. Charlo won all three rounds on both judges' scorecards and claimed a unanimous decision victory. Finney came close to bringing Charlo's fight to a close several times during his career, but Finney was able to hold them off for the fifth time in his career.

The IBF ordered Cornelius Bundrage (34-5, 19 KOs) to present a mandatory title defense against Charlo in May 2015. The date was considered a possibility right away. Bundrage was forced to leave the match on June 8 after citing an injury above his left eye. The card, which had been set to July 18, was postponed. The deep cut occurred during a sparring session. The fight would take place at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Ledyard, Connecticut, on September 17, according to Ledyard, Connecticut. Charlo defeated Bundrage and took the IBF light middleweight championship after an 18-month wait. In rounds 1, 2 and 3, bundrage was knocked down twice and twice in round 3. Bundrage was defeated in round 1 by an overhand right. Charlo never allowed Bundrage to enter the fight by applying pressure, never allowing pressure. A left jab delivered the second knockdown in round 2, which was the second knockdown. Bundrage was dismissed early in round 3 and a few minutes later, the final blow to the head was delivered. The referee attempted to make a count but the game was called off at 2 minutes and 33 seconds. "I haven't battled in (11 months), you can't be inactive combating these young guys," Bundrage said.

Charlo's manager Ronnie Shields confirmed that Charlo would make his first defense against veteran Wilky Campfort (21-1, 12 KOs) on November 28, 2015 at The Bomb Factory in Dallas, Texas, a few weeks after winning the championship. Campfort's sole defeat on his record came in his second professional match after a majority decision in four rounds. Shield's, who had been preparing both the twins, recently announced that he would no longer be working with Jermell. It was on good terms, and it would not have an effect on how Jermall would do, according to the man. With a counter right hand, Charlo floored Campfort in round two. After a flurry in the corner forced Campfort to take a voluntary knee, he suffered his second knockdown in the second round. Charlo's left uppercut clean to his left eye of Campfort's, compromising his vision, caused him to take a knee right away. Despite beating the count, Campfort said he was unable to see, prompting referee Mark Calo-Oy to call off the contest. Charlo out-landed Campfort 62-11, connecting on 30 percent of his power shots over the four rounds. Charlo said after the fight that he would remain light middleweight and continue to defend his crown, but that he wanted big fights. He lauded his jab, naming it the best in the industry.

Charlo would defend former world champion Austin Trout (30-2, 17 KOs) at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, Nevada, on March 29, 2016. Erislandy Lara, Vanes Martirosyan, and his brother Jermell were among the card's top light middleweights. Charlo beat Trout by a 12-round unanimous decision in a close contest. The judges' score was 115-113, 116-112, 116-112. Charlo had the toughest shots to control the first six rounds. Charlo, on the other hand, seemed to gas out a little in the second half of the match, and Trout was outworked by Trout. Trout was cut in the tenth round of a head clash, but the team recovered well despite being cut. When the scores were announced out to the judges, the crowd booed him loudly, demanding that they had voted out to inform the judges that they had voted in error. Charlo landed 130 of 474 punches (27%) and Trout landed 117 of his 490 throw (24%). Trout received a purse of $300,000, while Charlo received $500,000.

Charlo's next title defense was supposed to be against the No. Julian Williams (22-0-1, 14 KOs) at the USC Galen Center in Los Angeles, California, November 10, 2016. Charlo was fighting an eye injury and was granted a 60-day medical extension by the IBF, and the war was postponed. Charlo's name was also speculated that the team would leave the title to move to middleweight. Charlo won his IBF junior middleweight title with a fifth round stoppage of Williams. Charlo dropped Williams in the second round with a strong jab. Williams came back and engaged in a spirited match, knocking punches, and getting some good counters. Charlo took the right uppercut in round 5 and knocked Williams hard, causing them to miss Williams. Williams escaped, but Charlo went for the finish and got it with a third knockdown after a barrage of punches came with a left hook. Williams went over to congratulate Charlo after the referee called the fight off. Charlo didn't want to embrace Williams, she told Williams, "I don't want your congratulations, I want your apology." Charlo was booed by the crowd as a result of the heat between the two directions. Charlo said Williams had disrespected him leading up to the fight, while still excluding Canelo and Golovkin, who said he would step up to middleweight. The showtime battle attracted 321,000 viewers, with the largest audience reaching 370,000 viewers.

Charlo renounced his IBF light middleweight title in order to advance to middleweight on February 16, 2017. Charlo had wanted to unify the light middleweight division, but there were no titlists on hand. Jermell, Jermell's twin brother who had promised not to fight, still held the WBC championship at the time. After the Williams fight, he also said he was struggling to make weight. Charlo said on ESPN, "It was either going to be a big fight for me at 154 pounds, like against Miguel Cotto or Canelo Alvarez, or something similar." Charlo was ranked second in the world, ahead of David Lemieux and Curtis Stevens, who were ranked number 3 and 4. Charlo received a No. 3 ranking from the IBF. ESPN Deportes announced in March 2017 that Charlo would face WBC number one ranked, Argentinian boxer Jorge Sebastian Heiland in a final eliminator.

According to news, Jorge Sebastian Heiland (28-4-2, 15 KOs) would be able to face Charlo in a final eliminator on June 5, 2017. Since 2015, Heiland had been the mandatory. Early talks suggested that the brawl could be held on the undercard of Mikey Garcia's vs. Adrien Broner undercard. The WBC officially ordered the match between the two teams on June 9, with the winner emerging as the mandatory challenger for Canelo vs. Gennady Golovkin's winner, which will be held in September 2017. On June 27, the war was officially announced. Charlo weighed in at 159.2 pounds, while Heiland came in marginally lighter at 158.2 pounds.

Charlo defeated an injured Heiland in round 4 of the WBC middleweight championship, making them the only legitimate challenger for the WBC middleweight title. Heiland's left leg was in pain at the start of the fight. Charlo first dropped Heiland in round 2 with a left to the head. Charlo's second left hook to the head dropped Heiland once more in round 4. Heiland made the count, but he stumbled around due to the injury as he was getting up. Referee Benji Esteves halted the game at 2:13 of the fourth round to ensure that Heiland received no more punishment. "Understands the injury can be a decoy," Charlo told Jim Gray of Showtime in a post-fight interview. You never want to jump in and say it's part of his game plan. [Ronnie Shields]: My mentor [Ronnie Shields] told me to stay at my job, continue to work, and it will come." The ringside doctor checked Heiland's leg before the fourth round, but decided against continuing the game. Heiland said that his leg was fine going into the fight and that the injury occurred in the first round. Charlo earned $350,000 compared to Heiland's $200,000 budget. On Showtime, the show attracted an average of 500,000 viewers and reached 542,000 viewers.

Charlo will face Hugo Centeno in the Interim WBC middleweight championship against 26-1, 14 KOs), according to the WBC on November 21, 2017. The reason for this being due to the full WBC title being tied up in a potential rematch between Golovkin and lvarez, according to WBC President Maurcio Sulaiman. At the time, a possible date in January 2018 was being considered. Sulaiman ordered the fight on January 2, 2018 but it was declared by the WBC for the interim championship, owing to talks that were still ongoing. The match was declared official on January 23, and it took place on the undercard of Deontay Wilder's WBC heavyweight title defense against Luis Ortiz at the Barclays Center on March 3rd. Centeno sustained his ribs in preparation in February 23, and the match was postponed on February 23. On the Adrien Broner vs. Jessie Vargas undercard, the brawl was quickly postponed and scheduled to take place on April 21. Charlo defeated Centeno in round 2 on fight night in front of 13,964 people in attendance. Charlo's head was knocked by the attacker's left hook to the head followed by a right hand to Centeno. Referee Steve Willis brought the brawl to a halt. Of round 2, the official time was at 0:55. Charlo spent the first round stalking Centeno, who was reluctant to trade. "I'm a two-time world champion," Charlo said after the show.

Bring on Triple G!

I want that fight!

The networks [HBO and Showtime] and the players can decide how to get the Triple G fight off the ground. I have the world's best manager [Al Haymon]. With 21 knockouts, I'm 27-0. Everybody knows it.

What more can I say?"

Charlo made 12 of 35 punches (36%) and Centeno landed 10 of his 31 thrown (32%), according to CompuBox Stats. Charlo's $235,000 purse was worth $500,000 to Centeno's $235,000.

Premier Boxing Champions revealed a doubleheader at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, on December 22, 2018. Jermell Charlo will defend his WBC light middleweight title against Tony Harrison and Jermall Charlo defending his WBC interim middleweight title against Willie Monroe Jr., who will be televised by FOX. (6 KOs). To see who would finish the show, the twins turned a coin. On October 25, the formal press conference took place. The WBC had been warned of an adverse result in Monroe's pre-fight drug test, a week before the fight. According to reports, Russian boxer Matt Korobov (28-1, 14 KOs), who was supposed to fight Juan DeAngel on the untelevised undercard, stepped up to the challenge. Koborov, who was mainly fighting at the light heavyweight level, was dropped to super middleweight to face DeAngel, and the pair now had six days to return to 160 pounds from super middleweight. Monroe will not be eligible to face Charlo for the title, according to a statement released by the WBC. They also reported that the adverse finding was due to a banned steroidal drug. Monroe admitted that he used a non-specific "testosterone booster," as written in the Doping Control Form, but did not request a "therapeutic Use Exception" for the drug, but did not request a "therapeutic Use Exception" for the drug. On December 17, Charlo vs. Korobov was announced. As it was revealed that the contracted weight limit for his fight against DeAngel was 162 pounds, Korobov had only two pounds to lose.

Charlo defeated Brandon Adams, who was ranked #12 by the WBC at middleweight on June 29, 2019. Adams came out to the box, and Charlo's life was a bit rocky at times. Charlo, on the other hand, continued to dominate for the majority of the contest, winning it by a narrow unanimous decision. Charlo won 120-108, with one losing 119-109 for the champion.

Charlo defended his WBC middleweight title against Dennis Hogan on December 7, 2019. Hogan was ranked #5 by the WBC at middleweight. Charlo defeated Hogan twice, once in the fourth and once in the seventh round, en route to his eighth round TKO victory. In the seven rounds, Hogan recovered from his second knockdown, but the referee called the game to an end, awarding Charlo the TKO victory.

Charlo defended his belt against WBC #1 and The Ring #4 at middleweight Sergiy Derevyanchenko on September 26, 2020. Charlo's brisk jab led to a narrow victory over Derevyanchenko, who was arguably his toughest opponent to date, with a solid chin and a multitude of shots to win by unanimous decision. 117-111, 118-110.

Charlo successfully defended his title against Juan Macias Montiel, a new challenger. Charlo was in charge throughout the fight, winning a unanimous decision with scores of 118-109, 120-108.

Canelo Alvarez announces that he will defend his undisputed WBA, WBC, IBF, IBF & WBO supermiddleweight world championships on May 4

www.dailymail.co.uk, February 13, 2024
Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez has confirmed that his next opponent, not a Mexican, will be an American, not a Mexican - marrying up to claims that he will face Jermall Charlo not Jaime Munguia. In September 2023, the Mexican superstar had already put his four super-middleweight belts on the line against Jermell, the younger Charlo twin, who had lost the contest by unanimous vote. However, some fans thought it was a mismatch when Jermell had stepped up two divisions from light middleweight to Canelo after his brother was pushed out of negotiations.

Jermell Charlo, a boxer from Texas, was arrested in Texas last week for 'assaulting a family friend,' but he's now freed from jail as allegations of former Canelo opponents rise

According to internet reports, boxer Jermell Charlo has been arrested in Texas for assaulting a family member, resulting in bodily harm. Attorney Kent A. Schaffer, who appeared for Charlo in another lawsuit in Fort Bend, has declined to comment on the matter to DailyMail.com. PBC's spokesman, Charlo's promoter, did not immediately respond to DailyMail.com's request for comment. Charlo, a former WBC light middleweight champion, is coming off his second straight defeat - a unanimous decision loss to undefeated super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez. Jermall Charlo, a 33-year-old boy, was arrested in Fort Bend last year on a similar charge of attacking a family or household member. Jermall had been convicted of felony theft, but was not charged with those offenses. Jermell's charges are uncertain, and Fort Bend police spokespeople have yet to respond to DailyMail.com's request for information.
