Jeanne Marie Tripplehorn (born June 10, 1963) is an American actress.

She began her career in theatre, appearing in several productions throughout the early 1990s, including Anton Chekov's Three Sisters on Broadway.

In the violent thriller Basic Instinct (1992), her film career began with a police psychologist.

The Firm (1993), Waterworld (1995), and Sliding Doors (1998) were among her other film appearances.

Barbara Henrickson appeared on television on HBO's Big Love (2006–11) and as Dr. Judith.

Alex Blake of CBS' Criminal Minds (2012–14), and she received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for her role as Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis in the 2009 HBO film Grey Gardens.

Early life

Tripplehorn was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, daughter of Suzanne Ferguson and Tom Tripplehorn and Tom Tripplehorn, who was once a guitarist with Gary Lewis & the Playboys, on June 10, 1963. When she was two years old, her parents divorced. She graduated from Edison High School in 1981 and spent a semester at the University of Tulsa. Creature Feature (1982–83) and Night Shift (1983). She spent time on a part-time and then full-time with local rock radio station KMOD before moving to Juilliard. Tripplehorn first attended the Juilliard School's Drama Division as a member of Group 19 (1986–1990), which also included Laura Linney.

Personal life

Tripplehorn appeared on television and film Ben Stiller from 1990 to 1996. Leland Orser, a Canadian actress, married her in 2000. They have a son.

Tripplehorn began her stage work. She appeared in John Patrick Shanley's The Big Funk in 1990 and co-starred Val Kilmer in John Ford's 1993 film 'Tis Pity She's a Whore.' She has appeared in Anton Chekov's Three Sisters opposite Amy Irving and Lili Taylor on Broadway. Tripplehorn made her film debut in 1992 in a supporting role in the erotic thriller Basic Instinct. Abby McDeere, opposite Tom Cruise in The Firm, appeared in Abby McDeere the following year, and she appeared in Waterworld with Kevin Costner in 1995. Tripplehorn performed in the 1997 box-office bomb 'Til There Were You'. She appeared in small films, including Office Killer, Monument Ave., and Sliding Doors in 1999; and in the British romantic comedy Mickey Blue Eyes, she appeared opposite Hugh Grant. In the 2002 film Swept Away, she was cast opposite Madonna.

Tripplehorn appeared in the HBO drama series Big Love in 2006, opposite Bill Paxton. This is regarded as the most lucrative position of her career. In 2009, she appeared in the HBO film Grey Gardens as Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. For this appearance, she was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or a Film. In 2011, she appeared in Five, a Lifetime television network film. In July 2012, Tripplehorn joined the cast of CBS procedural Criminal Minds, replacing Paget Brewster's Emily Prentiss. Per episode of Criminal Minds, she received a six-figure salary. Tripplehorn left the show after two seasons, but Jennifer Love Hewitt took her as a new agent.

Tripplehorn has appeared in independent films including Little Pink House (2017) starring Catherine Keener and Gloria Bell (2018) starring Julianne Moore. She returned to television in 2020 in the Hulu miniseries Mrs. America, opposite Cate Blanchett, Sarah Paulson, Rose Byrne, Tracey Ullman, and Margo Martindale. Later, she appeared in the HBO period drama series The Gilded Age, starring Christine Baranski and Cynthia Nixon.
