Jean-Pierre Ferland Career

Life and career

Ferland began working as an accountant in 1956, but his career there was short lived. He began taking guitar lessons with Stephen Fentock and fell in love with music, writing his first musical pieces. He began recording the first songs that would eventually make up his first album Jean-Pierre after two years of radio-Canada in February 1958. However, it wasn't until 1961 that he became widely known to the public, with the introduction of his second album, Rendez-vous à La Coda.

Ferland spent a considerable period in Europe, mainly in France and Belgium), designing music and recording albums, as well as appearing at a variety of venues, including shows in Olympia and Bobino. He received the Académie Charles Cros Award in 1968.

He introduced a disc Jaune in 1970, which sold 60 000 copies within a year, as well as live shows at Place des Arts in Montreal. T'es mon amour, a 1975 work by T'es ma maîtresse, became a hit.

Ferland was one of the top five performers (along with Claude Léveillée, Gilles Vigneault, Robert Charlebois et Yvon Deschamps) in the National Holiday's monumental outdoor concert in Quebec on June 21 and titled 1 fois 5. The album of the same name was released, and Académie Charles Cros Award was given in 1977.

Ferland wrote and performed for many popular shows in the 1980s, including Tapis rouge (SRC, 1986) et Ferland/Nadeau (Télé-Métropole, 1990).

Later career

Jean-Pierre Ferland had a stroke triggered by exhaustion and stress on October 12, 2006, causing him to cancel his final concert at the Bell Centre the next day. He recovered quickly, allowing him to perform his farewell concert on January 13, 2007. Ferland has appeared on the plains of Abraham to perform with Céline Dion on August 22, 2008, after being out of the spotlight. Other guest stage appearances, radio and television appearances followed, as well as teaching in La Voix (season 1). In 2017, Jean-Pierre Ferland released an album La vie m'amour m'etonne.
