He married Pippa Middleton, Catherine's younger sister, in 2017.
Early life and education
Matthews is David Matthews' eldest son, whose father Wallace Matthews worked in the coal industry and then moved to a garage near Rotherham. Before going into the luxury hotel industry, David Matthews made a fortune as a car dealer. James' father is also the owner of Eden Rock, St Barths, and he is also the laird of a 10,000-acre Scottish estate, Glen Affric. Jane Matthews (née Jane Spencer Parker), a Zimbabwean born artist whose father was architect Robert Spencer 'Spenny' Parker, was James' mother. Jane Matthews was educated at Slade School of Art in London. James is Spencer Matthews' older brother, who appeared on the scripted reality television show Made in Chelsea.
Matthews and his two brothers, Spencer and Michael, were split on two continents, including Caunton Manor, the 18th-century manor house on his family's 30-acre farm in Nottinghamshire, and Eden Rock, St Barths, the family's luxurious hotel on the French Caribbean island of Saint Barthélemy. On their 10,000-acre Glen Affric Estate in Scotland, another privately owned home enjoyed by his family is the "castle-like" hunting lodge. Michael Matthews' brother died in 1999 in a mountaineering crash on Mount Everest, just hours after being the youngest Briton to scale the peak. Matthews and his brother Michael both boarded at Uppingham School in Rutland, while Spencer boarded Eton. James, on the other hand, did not go to school to work as a securities trader at Spear, Leeds & Kellogg, now part of Goldman Sachs. In 1997, James Matthews joined Nordic Options Ltd, a finance house that de-merged from Spear, where he became a senior equity options trader.
Personal life
Matthews had become engaged to Pippa Middleton, the younger sister of Catherine, Princess of Wales, in July 2016. On May 20, 2017 Matthews and Middleton were married. Prince George, Prince Charlotte and Prince Louis' uncle is the uncle of Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, second, third, and fourth in line to the British throne respectively as the husband to Middleton and brother-in-law to the Princess of Wales.

He contributed to his domination both nationally and abroad by winning the Eurocup Formula Renault in the same year.
Matthews began trading in 1995 and was co-founder of Eden Rock Capital Management (named after his father's Eden Rock hotel), of which he is now Chief Executive. Matthews was "a demi-billionaire or close to a billionaire on his own merits" by 2007, according to the firm's founders.

The younger James Matthews of Glen Affric is the first name he will use before that date, if he chooses to do so.
In 2018, Matthew Middleton's brother-in-law was listed in The Times as hosting deer stalking parties at Glen Affric Estate. Despite Matthews' name as the heir to Glen Affric's Laird, he describes James Middleton as a "much better host" than I am.
