Early life
Lafferty was born in Hemet, California, to Angelica and Jeffrey Lafferty, who own a local building business. Stuart Lafferty, the actor's younger brother, has a younger brother.
Lafferty was first recognized extra on television shows, including Beverly Hills, 90210 and Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, in which he was a student actor. Lafferty attended Hemet High School (where he was a member of the school's basketball team) until 2003, after which he enrolled at California State University, Long Beach. He grew to Wilmington, North Carolina, after being cast as Nathan Scott in One Tree Hill at eighteen.
Personal life
Lafferty now lives in Los Angeles, California. On September 7, 2020, he proposed to Australian actress Alexandra Park. Since meeting on the set of The Royals, when Lafferty produced several episodes, the two began dating in 2015. They were married on May 23, 2022, 2022.
Career
Lafferty made his small-screen acting debut in the made-for-television film Annabelle's Wish in 1997, at the age of 12. Since appearing on television shows such as Once and Again, Get Real, and Boston Public, Lafferty has appeared on television shows such as "Once and Again." In 2002, Lafferty appeared in the ESPN made-for-television film A Season on the Brink, an adaptation of John Feinstein's book of the same name. The film focuses on Indiana University's college basketball team's 1985-86 seasons.
In 2003, Lafferty appeared in his breakout role of Nathan Scott on The WB/The CW teen drama series One Tree Hill. Nathan and Lucas Scott, two distant half-brothers who are put on the same basketball team, are the subject of a series that has questioned Nathan's status as the main character. The CW renewed the series for a ninth and final season in May 2011, for which Lafferty returned on a recurring basis rather than in a full-time actor role. Lafferty produced four episodes over the course of the later seasons. During his time on the series, he received four Teen Choice Award nominations.
In February 2008, Lafferty was cast in the straight-to-DVD sequel to the cult film Donnie Darko. The film, entitled S. Darko, was released in May 2009 and received mainly critical feedback from critics. In April 2011, Lafferty was confirmed to appear alongside One Tree Hill castmate Stephen Colletti and brother Stuart Lafferty in a planned adventure reality television series called Wild Life: A New Generation of Wild, for which he was an executive producer. A pilot episode was shot, but the series was unable to find a home on the internet. Mr Nash played Lafferty in the NBC crime drama Crisis in 2013. This was followed by Jimmy Adams' lead role in the independent film Waffle Street, alongside Danny Glover, and being cast in a recurring role during WGN America's slave drama Underground's first season. Lafferty produced an episode of E!'s second season in August 2015. During season three, drama series The Royals returned to direct a few more episodes.
