Career

Alexandrou's acting career began in 1996, when he auditioned for the role of Martin Fowler in the BBC One soap opera EastEnders. The character was created shortly after the show's inception in 1985, but following the departure of actor Jon Peyton Price in 1996, the job became vacant. In the 1999 film Blessed Burden, Alexandrou appeared as Grant.

He appeared in a "Soap Stars Special" edition of The Weakest Link in July 2003. Alexandrou appeared in Who Stole the Snowman, a crime caper that took place over Christmas 2005. On February 2, 2007, he and Natalie Cassidy, who portrayed his on-screen wife Sonia Fowler, were divorced (to tie in with Wendy Richard and Ray Brooks' departures). "I've decided to leave the show to explore other aspects of my work," Alexandrou said when asked about his resignation. Since turning 21 years old, I felt it was a good time to leave. I owe everything to the show and would love to return one day - if EastEnders would have me. It was revealed on October 12, 2014, actor James Bye would take over as the character's return to Albert Square.

Alexandrou appeared in The Homecoming opposite Harold Pinter for BBC Radio 3.

Alexandrou was a member of the British Shakespeare Company of the United Kingdom and Norway from June to September 2007. In Henry V. and Orlando in As You Like It, he played Pistol and Orlando. It was incorrectly announced that he turned down the opportunity to replace Daniel Radcliffe in the West End revival of Equus in 2007.
