Jack White Life

John Anthony White (né Gillis), a born July 9, 1975, is an American singer, guitarist, multi-instrumentalist, and producer.

He is best known as the lead singer and guitarist of The White Stripes, but he has also performed in other bands and as a solo performer.

White has had a long reputation and success, and he has been lauded as one of the most influential artists in the 2000s' garage rock revival.

He has received twelve Grammy Awards, and all three of his solo albums have reached top of the Billboard charts.

On Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time, he ranked him number 70.

David Fricke's 2011 list ranked him at number 17 on the most influential websites in the United States. White formed The White Stripes with fellow Detroit native and then-wife Meg White in 1997 after moonlighting in several underground Detroit bands as a drummer.

White Blood Cells, their 2001 breakthrough album, brought them international recognition with the hit single and accompanying music video "Fell in Love with a Girl."

This award gave Whitepeople the opportunity to work with well-known artists, including Loretta Lynn and Bob Dylan.

White founded The Raconteurs with Brendan Benson in 2005 and The Dead Weather with Alison Mosshart of The Kills appeared in 2009.

He performed "Another Way to Die" (the title song for James Bond's Quantum of Solace) in 2008, alongside Alicia Keys, the only duet to perform a Bond song.

Blunderbuss, White's debut solo album, was released on April 24, 2012.

On June 10, 2014, Lazaretto, his second studio album, was released.

On March 23, 2018, his third studio album, Boarding House Reach, was released.

Both three albums have had a wide commercial and critical success. White is a board member of the National Recording Preservation Foundation at the Library of Congress.

His record company and studio Third Man Records have released vinyl recordings of his own work, as well as that of other artists and local school children.

Lazaretto also holds the most first-week vinyl sales since 1991.

White has a large array of guitars and other accessories, as well as a love for vintage items that have ties to famous blues artists.

He is a vocal promoter of analog technology and recording methods. White is concerned about his personal information, but he has been accused of fabricating lies about his personal life.

He and Meg White married in 1996 but they separated in 2000 during the band's peak.

They then began to identify themselves as siblings.

He was later married to actress and singer Karen Elson from 2005 to 2013; the couple have a son and daughter.

He now lives in Nashville, Tennessee.

Early life

John Anthony Gillis was born in Detroit, Michigan, on July 9, 1975, the youngest of ten children of Teresa (née Bandyk; born 1930) and Gorman M. Gillis. His mother was Polish, while his father, a Scottish-Canadian, was Scottish-Canadian. He was raised as a Catholic, and both his father and mother worked with the Archdiocese of Detroit as the building maintenance superintendent and secretary in the Cardinal's office. Gillis was ordained an altar boy in the 1987 film The Rosary Murders, which was shot mainly at Most Holy Redeemer parish in southwest Detroit. He attended Cass Technical High School in Detroit.

Gillis' early musical influences were his older brothers, who were in a band together called Catalyst, and he learned to play the instruments; he started playing the drums in the first grade after discovering a kit in the attic. He was a fan of classical music as a child, but Led Zeppelin began listening to the Doors, Pink Floyd, and Led Zeppelin in elementary school. Gillis began listening to the blues and 1960s rock that would inspire him in the White Stripes, with Son House and Blind Willie McTell being among his favorite blues guitarists. In interviews, he has said that Son House's "Grinnin' in Your Face" is his favorite song of all time. Gene Krupa, Stewart Copeland, and Crow Smith from Flat Duo Jets are among his drummer friends.

Mike Wallace told Mike Wallace that his life might have turned out differently in 2005. "I'd been accepted to a seminary in Wisconsin, and I was going to be a priest, but I'd say, 'I'll just go to public school.' I had just installed a new amplifier in my bedroom, but I didn't think I was allowed to take it with me." Instead, he was accepted into Cass Technical High School as a business major and also played the drums and trombone in the band. Brian Muldoon, a family friend, started a three-year upholstery apprenticeship at 15. Muldoon is credited with his introduction to punk music as they worked together in the store. Muldoon coerced his teenage apprentice to form a band: "He played drums," Gillis said. "Well, I suppose I'll play guitar now." The Upholsterers were featured on an album, as the Upholsterers.

Megan White, a senior at the Memphis Smoke restaurant where she worked, and the two friends frequented the coffee shops, local music venues, and record stores of the area. They married on September 21, 1996, following a courtship. He legally took her last name in a reversal of history.

After finishing his apprenticeship, he founded Third Man Upholstery, a one-man operation. "Your Furniture Is Not Dead" was his company's slogan, and the color scheme was yellow and black, with a yellow van, a yellow-and-black uniform, and a yellow clipboard. Although Third Man Upholstery never lost money, he says it was unprofitable due to his complacency about money and his business practices that were seen as unprofessional, such as making bills out in crayon and writing poetry inside the furniture.

Personal life

White is very protective of his personal information and gives no details of his family life, even going as far as to ban fake information. He says that he does not consider his personal life integral to his art, adding, "It's the same thing as asking Michelangelo, "What kind of shoes do you wear?" ... In the end, it doesn't really matter; our information and photographs are the only thing that will be left.

Lead Belly's New York City arrest record, James Brown's Georgia driver's license from the 1980s, and a copy of the first Superman comic from 1936 include these esoterica. In January 2015, an online bidder purchased Elvis Presley's first album ever — an acetate of the two cover songs, "My Happiness" and "When Your Heartaches Begin"—a $300,000 bidder. The buyer had been White in its March 6, 2015 issue. Presley was 18 years old when the vinyl record was taken at Sun Studio in Memphis, Tennessee, in the summer of 1953.

White, who was born in Detroit, is a Detroit Tigers baseball fan.

He has sluggish and a waste of time on several occasions, going so far as to say that he does not want his children to play them. Despite this, his songs have appeared in the trailers for Call of Duty: Vanguard, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, and Battlefield 1, as well as on the soundtracks of Forza Horizon 4 and numerous Guitar Hero games.

Jack and Meg married on September 21, 1996, and then divorced on March 24, 2000. Jack changed Meg's last name, effectively ending his surname. After the White Stripes broke up, he says he "almost never talks to Meg" and that she has been solitary. He had a brief friendship with actress Renée Zellweger, whom he encountered during the filming of Cold Mountain in 2003. The couple were involved in a car accident that left White's left index finger broken and was forced to reschedule a portion of the summer tour. Fans of his finger surgery were taken on the internet. In December 2004, the breakup of White and Zellweger became public.

In "Blue Orchid"'s music video, White met British model Karen Elson. They married in Manaus, Brazil, on June 1, 2005. The wedding took place in a canoe on the Amazon River and was officiated by a shaman. Later, a Roman Catholic priest confirmed their union. Ian Montone was the best man, and Meg White was the maid of honor. Both of them were married "it was the first marriage," according to official wedding announcements. Scarlett Teresa Teresa, the couple's daughter, was born in 2006. Henry Lee, their second child, was born in 2007.

The family lived in Brentwood, a suburb south of Nashville, where Elson owned Venus & Mars, a vintage clothing store. Elson contributed vocals on White's first solo album. The couple declared their intention to divorce in June 2011 and held "a good swing bang humdinger" party to celebrate the split. A judge in Nashville barred White from having "any contact with Karen Elson whatsoever except as it pertains to the parties' minor children." "Mr. White does not want to be seen as something he is not, violent towards his wife and children," a counter-motion was filed on August 2, 2013. On November 26, 2013, the divorce was finalized. Elson debating the charges later, referring to her divorce lawyers' "aggressive" charges. "Those who gain control of a marriage ended helped to create a downward spiral for the majority of my children." "When shitty attorneys are in a situation like divorce, their aim is to villainize," White said. According to reports, the former couple were on good terms.

On April 8, 2022, White performed the national anthem for a Detroit Tigers game, then proposed to his girlfriend, Olivia Jean, near the end of a concert appearance at the Detroit Masonic Temple, while "Hotel Yorba" was being performed. Ben Swank, White's corporate partner, married Jean and White shortly afterward, who officiated on stage.

After learning that Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump had used the White Stripes' "Seven Nation Army" in film campaign materials, White denounced him and launched "Icky Trump" — a twist on the White Stripes' "Icky Thump"—on the Third Man Records website in October. Senator Bernie Sanders supported Senator Bernie Sanders in the 2020 Democratic presidential primaries and performed a six-song set at a Sanders fundraiser at Cass Technical High School on October 27, 2019. White said at the rally that he thinks that "Sanders is telling the truth," and that he has a lot of trust him." Sanders' argument that the Electoral College should be abolished is false, and he also stated at the rally that "the person with the most votes should be voted."

White has been dubbed "eccentric." He is known for inventing mythology around his interests; examples include his assertion that the Stripes appeared on Bastille Day, that he and Meg are the two youngest of ten siblings, and that Third Man Records used to be a candy store. When the Detroit Free Press first published copies of both a marriage license and divorce certificate for him and Meg confirming their marriage history as a married couple in 2002, these claims were either unproven or disproven. In interviews, neither official or informal, but Jack continues to refer to Meg as his sister, including in the film Under Great White Northern Lights, which was shot in 2007. Jack alluded to this little known fact in a Rolling Stone magazine in 2005, implying that the emphasis was really supposed to keep the focus on the music rather than the couple's personal relations.

He has a strong attachment to the number three, stemming from the fact that three staples were discovered in the back of a Vladimir Kagan couch, where he assisted with upholstering as an apprentice. "three" is often in the name, and he often adds "III" to the end of his name. During the White Stripes 2005 tour in the United Kingdom, White began referring to himself as "Three Quid"—British slang for the pound sterling.

He has retained his aesthetic, despite the fact that some people will question whether he is "true." He often color-codes his projects, including employee uniforms, such as the aforementioned Third Man Upholstery and the White Stripes, as well as Third Man Records, which is completely kitted in yellow, black, red, and blue. As a taxidermy enthusiast who also works as an upholster, he decorates his studio with preserved animals, including a peacock, giraffe, and Himalayan goat.

White was involved in an altercation with Jason Stollsteimer, the Von Bonds' lead singer, at the Magic Stick, a Detroit club, on December 13, 2003. White was charged with misdemeanor aggravated assault. He pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of assault and battery and was fined $750 (including court costs) and was sentenced to anger management training.

After the White Stripes gained international fame, White has consistently referred to controversies that erupted between him and fellow artists in Detroit's underground music scene. He said in a Associated Press interview in 2006 that he eventually left Detroit because, "he could not take the negativity anymore." Nevertheless, he wrote and published a poem titled "Courageous Dream's Concern" in an attempt to clarify his feelings toward Detroit's city. He expresses his love for his hometown in it.

Elson's divorce hearings in 2013 revealed that an e-mail White had sent her that contained disparaging remarks about the Black Keys. White said in a Rolling Stone magazine interview that he'll hear television commercials where the music's ripping off sounds of mine, to the point that I think it's me." It's the Black Keys" in half the time. He later apologised for the remark. However, Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney appeared in a series of tweets in September 2015 alleging that White threatened to arrest him in a bar. In a letter sent by Pitchfork, White denied the allegation, saying that Carney should speak directly with him rather than on the internet. "Talked to jack for an hour, he's cool," Carney wrote on a tweet the next day. "All good." "You have my respect Patrick Carney from one artist to another," White posted on Twitter.

The University of Oklahoma's newspaper OU Daily carried a story on February 1, 2015, which included the unveiling of White's tour rider's photo on February 2 in McCasland Field House. The rider, as well as White's ban on bananas backstage, received some media coverage. William Morris Endeavor Entertainment, the rider's booking company, had barred its performers from attending performances at the University of Oklahoma, according to the article. On February 15, White sent an open letter addressed to "journalists and others looking for adventure or a diva" in which he referred to the octagon's "inside joke with local promoters" and "something to shake the boredom" and "nothing to a person with food allergies, as well as the prohibition of bananas being banned from eating bananas, while criticizing journalists who wrote about the rider as "out of their element." He chastised OU Daily for releasing the story and reiterated his desire to perform in Oklahoma in the same letter.

In Detroit, White has extended financial assistance to organizations. In 2009, White donated almost $170,000 to the restoration of the baseball diamond in southwest Detroit's Clark Park. After it was revealed that the owners owed $142,000 in back taxes, the Detroit Masonic Temple was almost foreclosed on in 2013. It was revealed that White had footed the entire bill in June 2013. The temple has chosen Jack White Theater to honor him for the gift.

The National Recording Preservation Foundation was given a $200,000 grant from White to use in restoring and preserving sound recordings on media such as reel-to-reel tape and old cylinders. Eric J. Schwartz, the foundation's president, said the donation represented a "commitment by a really busy songwriter and performer who gave both his time on the board and funds to preserve our national song recording heritage." White also serves on the board of the foundation.

In July 2016, White was one of the 45 members of Nashville's Gender Equality Council, which was founded in 2016.

On September 18, 2018, White donated $30,000 to The Outsiders House Museum for its preservation and restoration.

"For his dedication to Detroit and contributions to the arts as one of the nation's most influential and influential artists of the past two decades," Wayne State University of Detroit, Michigan, awarded White with an honorary doctor of humane letters degree on May 3, 2019.

Jack White Career

Career

Jack had his first professional gig as the drummer for the Detroit band Goober & the Peas, and he was still in that position when the band broke up in 1996. He was in this band that he learned about touring and performing onstage. Since the band's break, he's landed as an upholsterer by day, moonlighting in local bands, as well as performing solo shows. Meg, a bartender by trade, began to play the drums in 1997 and, "it felt liberating and refreshing" when she first started to play drums with me, but not on a lark. The couple formed the White Stripes, a band, and the first show at the Gold Dollar in Detroit was two months later.

Despite being married, Jack and Meg are publicly identifying as siblings. They stuck to a chromatic style, only in red, white, and black. They began their careers as a member of Michigan's underground garage rock band scene. They performed alongside and opened for more well-known local bands, such as Bantam Rooster, the Dirtbombs, Two-Star Tabernacle, Rocket 455, and the Hentchmen. The White Stripes were signed to Italy Records, a small and independent garage punk band founded in 1998. By Dave Buick, the White Stripes were signed to Italy Records, a small and independent Detroit punk brand. In 1999, the band's eponymous debut album was released, and a year later, the album was complemented by De Stijl, a cult classic. The album debuted at number 38 in Billboard's Independent Albums chart, despite being ranked 38.

White Blood Cells was the band's first album in 2001. The album's stripped-down garage rock sound received critical attention in the United States and elsewhere, making the White Stripes one of the most influential bands of 2002 and one of the first acts in the country's garage band revival of the time. They were the most exciting thing he'd seen since Jimi Hendrix, according to John Peel, a well-known DJ and the band's early promoter in the United Kingdom. "Under the arty façade lies one of the most cymic, reluctant rockers to come along since Kurt Cobain," the New York Times said. The album was followed by Elephant, a commercially and critically successful company. The album's critic at AllMusic commented that it is "even more piss-off, inflammatory, and stunning than its predecessor... it's darker and more difficult than White Blood Cells." "Seven Nation Army," the album's first single, debuted on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart for three weeks, winning the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Rock Song and becoming a worldwide sporting and protest anthem. Get Behind Me Satan, the band's fifth album, was recorded in White's own home and marked a change in the band's musical direction, with piano-driven melodies and experimentation with marimba and a more rhythm-based guitar playing by White.

Icky Thump, the band's sixth album, was released in 2007, but unlike their previous lo-fi albums, it was recorded in Nashville at Blackbird Studio. The album was regarded as a return to the band's earlier blues and garage-rock sound. It debuted on the US Billboard 200 chart at number two and reached the top of the UK Albums Chart, selling over 300,000 vinyl copies in England alone, putting it at number two on the US Billboard 200 chart. "We can't afford to lose the thrill of cracking open a new record and seeing large artwork and having something you can hold in your hands," White said of vinyl. They launched a Canadian tour, during which they appeared in every one of the country's provinces and territories in support of the album. However, the band revealed the cancellation of 18 tour dates later this year due to Meg's battle with acute anxiety. The pair cancelled the remainder of their 2007 UK tour dates a few days later.

In the interim, White performed with other artists, but the band announced plans to debut a seventh album by the summer of 2009. The band made their first live appearance after the tour's cancellation, and a documentary about their Canadian tour, entitled The White Stripes: Under Great White Northern Lights, premiered later this year at the Toronto International Film Festival. However, almost two years went by without new announcements, and the band announced on their official website on February 2, 2011. White emphasized that it was not due to health problems or cultural differences, but rather to preserve what is beautiful and unique about the band."

"Steady Goes" was a song written by Brendan Benson, a fellow Michigan native with whom White had collaborated with before. This led to the formation of a full band, and the Greenhorns' Jack Lawrence and Patrick Keeler were invited to join them in what would become the Raconteurs. The musicians appeared in Benson's home studio in Detroit and continued to record as time was allowed for the remainder of the year. Broken Boy Soldiers, the band's debut album, was released. It was nominated for Best Rock Album at the 2006 Grammy Awards, despite being in the top ten charts in both the United States and the United Kingdom. With Vocal, the lead single, "Steady, As She Goes," was nominated for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. The Raconteurs went on tour to promote the album, with eight dates as the opening act for Bob Dylan. Both the group's second album, Consolers of the Lonely, and its first song, "Salute Your Solution," were released in 2008. The album debuted on the Billboard 200 chart as the best rock album on the planet, earning a Grammy Award for Best Rock Album. In 2019, the group was revived to produce the new album titled Help Us Stranger. This publication was followed by a tour of the United States.

When traveling to promote Consolers of the Lonely, White bronchitis and occasionally lost his voice. Alison Mosshart, the Killers' frontwoman (who was touring with the Raconteurs at the time), would often step in as his vocal replacement. The two artists' chemistry led them to collaboration, and White founded the Dead Weather Society in early 2009. Mosshart performed, White performed drums and shared vocal duties, Jack Lawrence of the Raconteurs played bass, and the Queens of the Stone Age keyboardist and guitarist Dean Fertita rounded out the foursome.

From their debut album Horehound, the band debuted a handful of new songs in Nashville on March 11, 2009. On White's Third Man Records label, it came out in Europe and North America on July 13, 2009. Mosshart announced in October 2009 that the second album was "halfway done," and that the first single, "Die by the Drop," was released on March 30, 2010. Sea of Cowards, the new album (on the Third Man Records label), was released in Ireland on May 7 of that year, and in the United States on May 11.

Third Man Records' announcement of Dodge & Burn, their third album, was released in July 2015 for a worldwide release in September. The album includes eight new songs, as well as four previously released songs, remixed, and remastered.

Due to White's fame and critical success with the White Stripes, he could perform as a solo artist with other musicians. He has performed on other artists' albums as well as invited artists to perform on his own projects. He has also worked as a producer for many artists, many through his company, Third Man Records.

In 2003, rumors began to circulate that White had collaborated with Electric Six for their song "Danger." "High Voltage" is a word that describes High Voltage. He and the Electric Six deny it, and the vocal work was attributed to John S O'Leary. Dick Valentine and Corey Martin (Electric Six band members) acknowledged White's presence in subsequent interviews but said no compensation was received.

White appeared on her 2004 album Van Lear Rose, which he produced and performed on. The album was a critical and commercial success. In 2008, White co-produced "Another Way to Die," the James Bond film Quantum of Solace's theme song. Jack White appeared in It Might Get Loud, a film in which he, Jimmy Page, and the Edge came together to debate the electric guitar and each artist's unique playing style. During the recording of the film that August, White's first solo album, "Fly Farm Blues," was written and recorded in ten minutes. On August 11, 2010, the single was available as a 7-inch vinyl record from Third Man Records and as a digital single available on iTunes. Danger Mouse, a producer from the United States, revealed that White, as well as Norah Jones, had been selected for his Rome project with Daniele Luppi. "The Rose with the Broken Neck," "Two Against One," and "The World" are three songs on the album. White completed and performed the song "You Know That I Know," which was also included on Hank Williams' "The Lost Notebooks of Hank Williams" on October 4, 2011. He created and appeared on Wanda Jackson's album The Party Ain't Over in the same year. His studio also released the album on a 7-inch vinyl, to his delight. White also appeared on AHK-toong Bay-bi Covered, performing a cover of U2's "Love Is Blindness." White has collaborated with others including Beck, the Rolling Stones, Jeff Beck, Bob Dylan, and Insane Clown Posse.

White's debut, self-produced solo album "Love Interruption," was released on January 30, 2012. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, and in support of the record, he appeared on Saturday Night Live as the musical guest and appeared at select festivals during the summer of 2012, including the Firefly Music Festival and Radio 1's Hackney Weekend, the Sasquatch. The Music Festival in Japan (one of the world's biggest festivals) and Rock Werchter in Belgium were among the highlights of the festival. He headlined Austin City Limits Music Festival later this year. White used two live bands on his tour for the album, which he selected randomly from at random. The Peacocks were the first female ensemble to play in Ruby Amanfu, Carla Mae Rische, Lillie Mae Rische, Maggie Björklund, Brooke Waggoner, and alternate bassists Bryn Davies and Catherine Popper. Daru Jones, Dominic Davis, Fats Kaplin, Ikey Owens, and Cory Younts were among the Buzzards, the other male group. White said that keeping two bands was impractical, and that the activity was dropped at the end of the tour. Eventually, Blunderbuss was nominated for several Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year, Best Rock Album, and Best Rock Song for "Freedom at 21."

White's second solo album, Lazaretto, was inspired by plays and poetry he had written as a child. It was announced on June 10, 2014, with the first single off the album, "High Ball Stepper." The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart and set the highest sales week for a vinyl album since SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991, which was a personal triumph for White. Critics adored the album, and three Grammy Awards were given to it: Best Alternative Music Album, Best Rock Song, and Best Rock Performance (for the song "Lazaretto"). On July 30, 2014, at the Detroit Masonic Temple, he gave the longest performance of his career and later appeared as one of the headliners at the Coachella Festival over two weekends in April 2015. On April 14, 2015, White announced that the festival would be his last electric set, followed by an acoustic performance in each of the five United States states in which he had yet to appear in before being given a long break from live performances. However, he appeared on the inaugural episode of A Prairie Home Companion with the new host Chris Thile on October 15, 2016, in favor of his compilation album Acoustic Recordings 1998-2016. He co-wrote the song "Don't Hurt Yourself" with Beyoncé on her album Lemonade and assisted her on the vocals.

White lived in solitude and without a cell phone in Nashville; he rented an apartment in Nashville, streamed quietly so no one would know what he was doing and slept on an army cot ahead of his next attempt; He drew inspiration from 1980s and 1990s rap artists (as well as A Tribe Called Quest, Kanye West, and Nicki Minaj) and selected his backing artists from those that performed supporting hip hop artists live. He released "Servings and Portions from my Boarding House Reach," a four-minute video that featured short sound bites of new music interspersed with white noise on December 12, 2017. White's third solo album Boarding House Reach, which was released on March 23, 2018, was released in January 2018. It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, like its two preceding albums. White appeared on "Over and Over and Over" and "Connected by Love" in support of his album. On September 21, 2018, Amazon Prime Video announced Jack White: Kneeling at The Anthem, D.C., his first concert film as a solo artist.

White's first solo single since 2018, "Taking Me Back," appeared in the game Call of Duty: Vanguard, was released in October 2021. White said in November that he would release two solo albums in 2022: Fear of the Dawn, which will feature White's classic rock sound, on April 8, and Entering Heaven Alive, a folk album, on July 22. On November 11, White also posted a video for "Taking Me Back." White unveiled the Supply Chain Issues Tour in December 2021 in Detroit, Michigan, which is the 2021 tour. The tour covers North America and Europe.

White has also worked in minor roles. He appeared in "Sittin' on the World," "Never Far Away," "Christmas Time Soon Will Be Over," and "Great High Mountain" from Georgia. Both Jack and Meg appeared in the segment "Jack Shows Meg His Tesla Coil," which was released in 2003. Elvis Presley appeared in the 2007 satire Walk Hard. He appeared as a special guest on The Muppets' season one finale in 2016 and performed "You Are the Sunshine of My Life," a version that was later released on 7" vinyl. In June 2017, White appeared in the award-winning documentary film The American Epic Sessions, recording on the first electronic sound recording device of the 1920s. "Matrimonial Intentions," "Mama's Angel Child," "Mama's Child," "2 Fingers of Whiskey," "On the Road Again" and "One Mic" (with Nas), were among his performances on Music From The American Epic Sessions: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. He was the film's executive producer.

Ben Swank, formerly of the Ohio-based Soledad Brothers, co-founded Third Man Records in 2001. However, White did not purchase a space in 2009 to house his brand until after he moved to Nashville. "I didn't want to have my own studio gear for the longest time," he said, mainly because of the White Stripes' constraints, and being in a studio with a deadline of ten days or two weeks to complete an album and using whatever equipment they happen to have there." After ten to fifteen years of recording, I felt that it was finally time for me to produce music and have everything I like in there: the exact tape machines, the precise microphones, and so on.
