About

Kerrigan is best known for his portrayal of protagonist Will Banion in the 1923 western film The Covered Wagon, who appeared in hundreds of silent films of the 1910s and 1920s.

Before Fame

He began his entertainment career as a vaudeville performer and appeared in his first silent film, titled Calamity Anne's Inheritance, in early 1913.

Trivia

When he publicly stated that only men who were not "good for something else" should fight in World War I, he ignited controversy and lost career momentum, and that it was unfortunate that artists were not exempted from military service in 1917.

Family Life

He began a more than three-decade friendship with fellow actor and director James Vincent in 1914.

Associated With

Kerrigan took over the role when stage and screen legend John Barrymore was unable to appear in the 1924 silent film Captain Blood.
