Businesses are vulnerable as a result of a decrease in international visitors after tax-free shopping was scrapped

www.dailymail.co.uk, July 16, 2023
Hundreds of businesses in tourist hotspots such as Liverpool, Bath, and Oxford are missing out after the VAT-free shopping for foreign visitors was halted. More than 320 major companies have now endorsed the Mail's Stop The Tourist Tax campaign, alleging that it is stifling the economy. However, despite Ministers' insistance that it mostly affects high-end shops in the capital, multinational companies from all around the region insist that it is not just luxury retailers who are feeling the jolt by the then-Chancellor Rishi Sunak's decision in 2021 that is not restricted to luxury retailers.

Nicola Bulley's "welfare check" will be investigated by Lancashire Police 17 days before she vanished

www.dailymail.co.uk, February 22, 2023
The Independent Office for Police Conduct says it is investigating an officer's visit to the family's house as part of a welfare screening conducted on January 10 - 17 days before the mother's disappearance. It comes after the opening of an inquest into Ms Bulley's death today revealed she was identified by dental records. Two women, 45, were discovered by citizens of the River Wyre reeds in Lancashire on Sunday, a mile from the bench where her mobile phone had been recovered 23 days earlier. The opening of an inquest into her death in Lancashire Coroner's Court today heard that she was identified by dental records. During the brief four-minute hearing, no family members were present and no reason was given; the lawsuit was postponed until later this year. Dr James Adeley, the senior coroner, said he had contacted consultant maxillofacial surgeon Ian Edwards to ask him to review dental records obtained by police from the Great Eccleston dental surgery.
