Bridget Everett (born April 21, 1972) is an American comedian, actress, writer, and cabaret performer.

Everett has dubbed herself a "alt-cabaret provocateur."

Early life

She hails from Manhattan, Kansas, and has been performing in New York City for more than a decade.

Everett is the youngest of six children born to Donn James and Frederica 'Freddie' Everett. Brinton, Brad, Alice, Brian, and Brock are among her siblings. "I'm from Manhattan, Kansas, the little apple," Everett shared on the podcast. My dad was mayor at one point, and then my brother came later. We're sort of like the Kennedys of Manhattan, Kansas," he said. In 2007, her father, who also served in the Kansas State House, died.

Everett's mother was a music instructor and gave her a love of music. When she was eight years old, her parents officially divorced but she hadn't been living apart since her early years. Her father, who was an advocate, was not around much.

Everett was a competitive swimmer and performed in both traditional and show choirs. She attended college at Arizona State University on a full scholarship to study music and opera. She worked in restaurant industry for 25 years before being able to resign in early 2015.

Career

Amy Schumer appeared at the Just for Laughs comedy festival in 2009. Everett has been opening for Schumer on her comedy tours since 2012. According to Schumer, Everett has even upstaged Schumer, prompting Schumer to request Everett close for her instead.

Everett appears with her band The Tender Moments, which includes Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz from the Beastie Boys and Carmine Covelli from The Julie Ruin. Everett and Horovitz co-wrote with Hairspray songwriters Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman in October 2013. The American Theatre Wing awarded Rock Bottom the 2015 Obie Awards Special Citation. Bridget Everett and the Tender Moments released Pound It!, an album with twelve songs in 2013.

Everett appeared alongside Brad Williams in a show called Down n Dirty (hosted by Broad City's Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer) at the 2014 Bonnaroo Music Festival.

At Carnegie Hall, Everett performed a duet of "Me and Bobby McGee" with Patti LuPone.

Bridget Everett: A One-Hour TV special starring Everett premiered on Comedy Central in 2015. She appears in it as her usual brand of comedy cabaret.

Everett received a standing ovation for her "Piece of My Heart" karaoke appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on August 1, 2017. Everett's "Piece of My Heart" appeared on the Tonight Show on January 3, 2018. In the third episode of the 2022 TV show Somewhere, she also performed the song.

Everett's Sam, created by Hannah Bos and Paul Thureen, returns to Manhattan, Kansas, to care for her dying sister Holly, and gets trapped. When she sings she makes her way to a queer group of performers who gather in a church for a weekly burlesque-type performance containing song, dance, and passages from one member's stolen diary, she becomes ill.' In a press release, Amy Gravitt, executive vice president of HBO and Max comedy, said, "nothing makes us smile more than this show, which never fails to remind us that life is made up of the little moments, that families can be chosen, and that dreams don't have deadlines." Meanwhile, Everett confirmed the news on Instagram, writing: 'Ummm HOLY SH*T WE ARE SO EXCITED! 'Can't believe it.'
