Dane Cook Life

Dane Jeffrey Cook (born March 18, 1972) is an American stand-up comedian and film actor.

He has recorded five comedy albums: Harmful If Swallowed; Retribution; Vicious Circle; Rough Around the Edges; and Isolated Incident

Retaliation's debut in 2006 became the most charting comedy album in 28 years and then went platinum.

In the Fall of 2006, he performed in Vicious Circle, a straight-to-DVD special titled Rough Around The Edges (which is included in the album of the same name), and Isolated Incident, a Comedy Central special in 2009.

He is best known for his use of observational, often vulgar, and occasionally dark comedy. He is one of the first comedians to use a personal website and MySpace to create a large fan base, and has been dubbed "alarmingly popular" in 2006.

Cook has appeared in films since 1997, including Mystery Men, Waiting..., Employee of the Month, Good Luck Chuck, Mr. Brooks, and My Best Friend's Girl.

In addition, he appeared in the 2013 family film Planes and its 2014 sequel Planes: Fire & Rescue.

He was the second comedian (after Andrew Dice Clay) to sell out Madison Square Garden's huge arena space.

Early life and education

Cook was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and the second son of Donna Jean (née Ford), died in 2006) and George F. Cook (died 2007). Darryl, his older half-brother, and five siblings. He grew up in a Catholic family of Irish descent. Cook was born in Arlington, Massachusetts, where he attended Arlington High School.

Cook has described himself as "pretty quiet, fairly introverted, shy" as a youth, though he was still a "wild child" at home. He burstled his shyness in his junior year of high school by beginning to act and doing stand-up comedy. He studied graphic design in college as a back-up plan in case he did not succeed in comedy after graduating from high school. Harmful If Swallowed, he now designs all of his merchandise, as well as the front of his album.

Personal life

Cook has said he does not drink or take drugs.

Darryl, Cook's half-brother, was his business manager until 2008, when it was discovered that Darryl and his wife embezzled millions of dollars from Cook. Both were found guilty and sentenced to prison for the embezzlement.

Kelsi Taylor, who is 26 years old, began dating Cook in 2017. The couple announced their engagement in August 2022.

Dane Cook Career

Career

Cook began appearing in comedy clubs in 1990.

Cook and a group of local emerging improv/sketch comedians were supposed to appear at the Boston Garden on October 30, 1992, as part of local radio station WBCN's "Rock of Boston" music festival. Despite being eager to perform sooner in the lineup, the Spin Doctors and Phish, a well-known band, were supposed to perform together in a memorable band war, although they were less excited but still aiming to do well. The audience, however, expressed dissatisfaction with throwing their shoes on the stage moments after they took the stage, neither expecting nor appreciating a comedy act at this late stage in the evening's program and impatient for Phish to continue. Robert Kelly, who appeared on stage as a member of the comedy troupe, begged with the audience to relax and let them perform their act; the audience responded by throwing lighters. Cook, and the comedy group had minor injuries on the stage, but the stage was not complete. As part of a "Worst I Ever Bombed" web series, Cook outlined the incident – as well as how dejected he felt and his subsequent determination to return to the Boston Garden and perform well someday.

Cook moved to New York City in 1994 and began to perform. He moved to Los Angeles, where he now lives today. He made his first appearance on Comedy Central's Premium Blend in 1998. In 2000, Cook produced a half-hour special on Comedy Central Presents. Since then, his showdown has twice won the Comedy Central Stand-up competition.

Harmful If Swallowed, Cook's first CD/DVD, was released in 2003. He has been signed to Comedy Central Records. The album has been rated platinum by the US. In 2005, Retaliation, his second CD/DVD, was released. Since Steve Martin's A Wild and Crazy Guy debuted as the top-ranked album in late 1978, this album rose double platinum and made Cook the first comic in 27 years to have an album in the top ten on the Billboard charts. He appeared at the MTV Video Music Awards and later joined Snoop Dogg in presenting the award for Best New Artist.

Cook's first HBO Special, Vicious Circle, took place on April 15, 2005. At the TD Garden, Vicious Circle was filmed "in the round." Cooked's first pilot episode was shot in the same year. The sitcom was not picked up, and the two pilot episodes were later released on DVD as the Lost Pilot. He and his longtime friends, Robert Kelly, Gary Gulman, and Jay Davis embarked on a 30-day, 20-show college tour called Tourgasm in the same year. The tour was shot and then turned into a Netflix 9-episode documentary.

Cook hosted Saturday Night Live on December 3, 2005 (SNL). A year later, he would host the premiere of season 32 of SNL. In the same year that Cook formed Superfinger Entertainment in order to produce his own albums and videos.

Cook headlined Dave Attell's Insomniac Tour in 2006 and hosted the 2006 Teen Choice Awards alongside Jessica Simpson. He received the award for Best Comedian the following year. After Andrew Dice Clay's epic feat in 1990, Cook became the second comedian to sell out Madison Square Garden's huge arena space on November 12, 2007. In one night, he appeared at two sold-out shows in one night. The show was shot on film and would later be released on Cook's third comedy album as a DVD. Cook also received the Big Entertainer Award at the VH1 Big Entertainer Awards in '06, as well as Rolling Stone magazine's Hot Comic of the Year. Rough Around The Edges, his third CD/DVD, was released on November 13, 2007, and was shot live at Madison Square Garden in New York City. He began his first arena tour around this time.

Cook set a new Laugh Factory record (previously held by Richard Pryor) by appearing on stage for three hours and 50 minutes on April 10, 2007. Dave Chappelle would set a new record five days later by playing for six hours and seven minutes. Chappelle set a record on December 3, 2007 by playing for six hours and 12 minutes. Cook set a new record on January 1, 2008 by appearing on stage for seven hours.

Cook reunited with Robert Kelly and Al Del Bene for three shows at The Coliseum in Caesars Palace, from May 23, 2008, to May 25, 2008. The trio went to Iraq from May 29 to June 4, 2008, to perform for the troops. Del Bene was the Emcee, Kelly was the focus, and Cook was the headliner.

He completed his fourth album, Isolated Incident, on Comedy Central on May 17, 2009, with the record releasing two days later. On April 25, 2009, he began his tour at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut. This album was the last of Cook's four-record contract with Comedy Central Records. The new album was recorded at the Laugh Factory in Hollywood, which is considered to be Cook's home base, where he goes to work on fresh material. In November 2009, he released the DVD version of the Isolated Incident.

Cook caused minor indiscretion in 2012 when a joke he made in a comedy club about the 2012 Aurora, Colorado shooting made the news.

"I am devastated by the recent tragedies in Colorado," he posted on Twitter later. He did not mean to deny what happened. Last night, I made a bad decision with my information and regret making a joke at a time when it was not appropriate. "My heart goes out to all of the victims' families and friends."

Cook's Uncommon Special on Showtime debuted in 2014.

Cook performed with Sebastian Maniscalco at the Oddball Comedy Festival in Dallas, Texas, and the Oddball Comedy & Curiosity Festival in Irvine, California, in September 2016. In November, he toured Canada at the annual "Just For Laughs" comedy festival.

Cook began his film career in the late 1990s, including Mystery Men as "The Waffler" and opposite Dennis Rodman in 1999's Simon Sez.

Cook appeared in his first leading role in Employee of the Month, which co-starred Jessica Simpson and Dax Shepard. The film earned less than $30 million against a $12 million budget.
