Russell Bentley, 64, rose to prominence in Russia after he joined Putin's forces annexing Crimea in 2014. He reportedly was killed by Russian troops after being mistaken for a spy. Eleven days after he vanished, Bentley turned up dead, amid allegations he was picked up by soldiers mistaking him for an American or NATO spy. The death has reportedly sparked a media storm in Russia after Bentley had previously been a propaganda favorite in the nation, including landing a reporting role with state-run Sputnik-TV.

An American who fought for pro-Putin forces in Ukraine has gone missing, say police in Russian-controlled Donetsk. Russell Bentley, 63, who is married to a Russian woman and has a passport from his adopted country, disappeared after an attack by Kyiv forces, according to reports. He was last seen in Donetsk on 8 April before moving in an 'unknown direction', and his whereabouts are unclear. He had gone to help victims, say reports.

The MH370 Malaysia Airlines flight perfectly dropped the plane into the sea (CGI rendering of what the accident may have looked like, right), entombing it and the 239 passengers aboard at the bottom of the ocean, according to a flight expert, ten years after it vanished. Simon Hardy (bottom right) of the United Kingdom has reported that the plane was sunk into the ocean at a location that has never been searched before. On March 8, 2014, the Boeing 777 jet disappeared from radar while en route from Malaysia's capital Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. According to satellite reports, the plane deviated from its flight path to crash into the southern Indian Ocean, where it is thought to have crashed. Pilot Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah (bottom left), 53, was suspected of deliberately crashing MH370 in a murder-suicide of a shocking magnitude, which he committed because of personal issues.
