Career

With the support of producer Quc Bóo, Vân burst into the music scene in 2002 as a pop-dance artist. With veteran singer Tunh nhân (Lovers' Garden), she released a duet album titled Vn tnhân (Lover's Garden).

Vân's debut solo album Thr chi (Playworld) was released on February 26th, and the next year, with the support of producer Quc Bán, Vân. The album was a power pop-dance LP with the name "NTV Virus." Two music videos were shot for the album: "Th' gi tr chi" and "Ngày sáng," a cover version of jtL's "A Better Day," directed by Jackie Chen. These two videos were among the first Vietnamese music videos to feature professional special effects and are ranked as one of the most expensive Vietnamese music videos to date.

On March 15, Vân released Bn vs. trăng (Mystery of the Moon), a moon-themed compilation that debuted on March 15. Three videos from this album were released: "B vs. trăng," the cheerleader-themed "Vn t.m. cao"), and "When I'm Sad" ("Where I'm Sad"), which was later covered by several artists including Mt Ngc, Minh Thun, and Thanh Tho.

Vân's third album, Con ng em i, was released on September 5, 2005 (My Way). This album was produced by Vân herself and it featured a partnership with a group of producers named The Dreams. My Way featured a variety of genres, from alternative rock to pop, R&B, and hip hop. She remixed the famous Trông Sn song "Quinh Hng."

After a two-month absence in America, Vân returned to Vietnam and recorded her fourth album, which she vowed to be a dance anthem record. On the last episode of 21st Century Women on VTV in October, Vân premiered one of her latest songs "I Won't Stop Loving You," a new joint venture with Quéc Bo. Due to heavy support for her film The Rebel, the album's debut was postponed until the summer of 2007. Vân revealed in May 2007 that Studio 68 would be her fourth album title, and that 68 was her lucky number. On January 10, 2008, she began Studio 68.

In 2006, Vân signed a deal to appear in Van Son, the long-running music and comedy series created by Van Son Entertainment, an overseas Vietnamese music production company. She has since appeared in every Van Son DVD release to date.

Vân started working on her new album, Nc thiên thn (Tears of Angel), during the first months of 2008, while Studio 68 was named Most Creative Album in a monthly album Vang award.

Vân made her first international appearance in Rouge, a 13-part late night television series that aired on AZN Television in 2004. MTV Asia & MediaCorp Singapore's Rouge was widely distributed in Asia and Australia. On the MTV Asia website, she was selected as the most popular actress in Rouge.

After the success of her album My Way, Vân continued acting, with many leading roles in films including Saigon Love Story directed by Ringo Le, 2 in 1 directed by Dao Duy Phuc and Johnny Tr. Nguyn's The Rebel, Vietnam's highest-grossing film of all time. Both critics and the public loved Vân's work, and the 15th Vietnam Film Festival named her the Best Actress Award. For the second time, she was also recognized for Best Actress at the Golden Kite Awards. In 2017, she played Paige Tico, Rose Tico's older sister, in The Last Jedi. Although her screen time was brief, her character's death was a significant act of self-sacrifice that affected the main characters in the film, particularly Rose. Tien, an Inferno elf enforcer for Leilah, the main antagonist in Netflix's Bright, came later this year.

She appeared in Vietnamese action film Furie (Hai Phng), which later became Vietnam's highest grossing domestic film of all time. She appeared in The Old Guard alongside Charlize Theron and in Spike Lee's film Da 5 Bloods with Chadwick Boseman in 2020.
