Early life

Harris Jayaraj was born and raised in Chennai by a pious Christian family. His father is a member of a Tamil Christian family and his mother hails from a Hindu Naidu family. He attended Krishnaswamy Matric School. Harris began formal instruction in carnatic music at the age of six. S. M. Jayakumar's father, S. M. Jayakumar, was a well-known film guitarist, and he's worked with T. M. Soundararajan, A. L. Raghavan, Soolamangalam Sisters, K. J. Yesudesh, S. R. Yeeman, S. R. Mahadevan, P.Susheela and Malayalam music director Shyam, P. R. Following two horrific bomb blasts, he became more spiritually disposed, and young Harris had to assume the family's care. Mr. A. Abdul Sattar wanted him to become a guitarist and so he was taught classical guitar from him.

Harris' 4th grade examination at Trinity College of Music, London, received the highest mark in Asia. He began his musical career as a guitarist in 1987, under the care of M. S. Viswanathan's assistant Joseph Krishna. Harris could pursue his academics only up to High School, but by then, he still had trouble with his attendance due to his recording sessions. Harris completed the Trinity College, London, having been educated in classical guitar. He soon started playing keyboard and showed an interest in synthesizers. There was no tutor for this course. He later started programming with his Roland MC-500, and went on to work as a programmer for over twenty five music directors in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Bhojpuri, Bhojpuri, Punjabi, and Oriya, with more than 600 projects as of the year 2000. He performed under well-known composers from 1987 to 2000, including Raj-Koti, A. R. Rahman, Sadhu Kokila, Mani Sharma, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Sirpi, Suresh Peters, Chandrabose, Shyam, Ouseppachan, Vidyasagar, and Vidyasagar. Harris has appeared on film soundtracks and film scores of many famous films, including Mudhalvan, Taj Mahal, Jeans, Kandukondain, Kandukondain, Kandukondain, Pandi, Padayappa, Ratchagan, Aravindhan, Indian, Seevalaperi Pandi and Asuran. While performing as an extra programmer under A. R. Rahman, he composed music for various television advertisements, including a Coca-Cola commercial starring actor Vijay. In his youth, he admired music composers M. S. Viswanathan, Ennio Morricone, A. R. Rahman, Salil Chowdhury, and Hans Zimmer.

Harris is married to Suma Jayaraj, and the couple have a son named Samuel Nicholas Harris and a daughter named Karen Nikitha Harris, who were born in 2006. Nikitha is a playback singer who made her debut with the song Vinnil Vinmeen for the film Kaappaan and was given a V4U Media award in 2020.

Harris Jayaraj Career

Film career

Harris debuted as a composer in Gautham Vasudev Menon's Minnale. The album was well-received, with the exception of the song Valiantgara, which was particularly popular. He was named the Best Music Director – Tamil by the Filmfare Award for his service in Minnale, snapping A. R. Rahman's record of 9 years. The following soundtrack albums 12B and Majunu were met with adoration and adoration. He also wrote for Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein, a Hindi remake of Minnale, directed by Gautham Menon. The bulk of the tunes from the Tamil version were retained in the Hindi version, though only two new tunes were created. Priyadarshan had been directing Lesa Lesa until 2007. Lesa Lesa's title track was the first song in India to be released as a single ahead of a film soundtrack album release. With Vasu, Harris made his Telugu cinema debut. For Kaakha Kaakha, starring Suriya and Jyothika, he was given the Filmfare Award for Best Music Director and ITFA Best Music Director. Gautham Vasudev Menon's film was a huge commercial success, and the songs received acclaim for their critical acclaim. Two new songs apart from the Tamil version were included in Gharshana's Telugu remake to please the Telugu audience's taste. In Telugu and Khwabon Khwabon in Hindi, Uyirin Uyire was reinterpreted as Cheliya Cheliya, making the use of gibberish words a feature of Harris songs.

After 12B, Harris partnered with producer Jeeva on Ullam Ketkumae. The music was lauded for its excellence and synergy with the setting both inside and out of the theater. S. Shankar, the Tamil cinema's top producer, partnered with Harris in his magnum opus Anniyan. It was the first time Shankar did not work with A. R. Rahman. Shankar later explained that working with Harris was an educational experience. Several accolades have been given to the soundtrack album, including the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Music Director and Filmfare Award for Best Music Director – Tamil Nadu. AR Murugadoss directed Ghajini, which earned him the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Music Director. Critics noted that the album had "scintillating, party-hopping numbers" which resulted in a huge commercial success in audio sales; "Sutum Vizhi" reached 20 million downloads and was incredibly popular. Harris portrayed Gautham Menon's blockbuster crime thriller, Vettaiyaadu, starring Kamal Haasan, with a necessary classiness. Gautham revealed that he gave Harris the entire script and solicits input from his side.

Harris ventured into Telugu cinema with the release of Sainikudu's first album. In ten selected theaters from five different countries, the film's music album was released simultaneously. Gautham Menon, who sees the sound and history score of Harris as a big success of his films, has joined Harris on a romantic-thriller Pachaucharam. The soundtracks of Pachaikili Muthucharam's performances have been described as melancholic, lilting, mysterious, and, in a inverse way, catchy. With Unnale Unnale, Harris' relationship with Jeeva continued. The music collection, which had a lot of energy, was a cut above the rest. Munna's next Telugu venture was a success in business, and the song Manasa received a Filmfare Best Singer Female award from Sadhana Sargam. Harris's mettle continued with all six songs on his new album, Bheema. In interludes, Siru Parvaiyalae used Pashto words. The album was lauded for its ability to bring about a visual recapitulation of audio. For the action cop film Sathyam, Harris used a live orchestra of 84 members. Harris Jayaraj was signed in for Vikram Kumar's 24, which was to star Vikram. He was also signed for the Malayalam film Yoddha 2, which stars Mohanlal. Both films were eventually shelved.

Harris's "Danga Maori Oodhari," which features lyrics in North Madras slang, became a quick chart buster in Anegan. Harris worked with Gautham Vasudev Menon on the action cop film Yennai Arindhaal after a hiatus of six years. Critics loved the soundtrack, and Behindwoods said it was the most played album of 2015 in Chennai radio stations.
