Hank Thompson Life

Henry William Thompson (September 3, 1925 – November 6, 2007) was an American country music singer-songwriter and guitarist whose career spanned seven decades. Thompson's musical style, which was described as a honky tonk Western swing, was a mash-up of fiddles, electric guitar, and steel guitar that showcased his distinctive, smooth baritone vocals. Billboard named him the top Country Western Band in a row for 14 years. Thompson, who used the swing beat and instrumentation to enhance his vocals, discouraged Wills' intense instrumental soloing; however, his "Hank Thompson sound" beat Bob Wills in Top 40 country hits; Thompson, although not well known on the top country charts in recent decades, remained a recording artist and concert promoter well into his 80s. In the 2013 video game, Grand Theft Auto V featured his song "It doesn't hurt anymore" It doesn't hurt anymore. Thomas Cobb's 1987 book Crazy Heart was inspired by Thompson's life, particularly because he toured with a local band. *In 2009, Cobb's book was turned into a hit film co-directed by Scott Cooper and Academy Award winner Jeff Bridges.
