Early life
Gérard Depardieu's son, as well as his first wife, actress Élisabeth Depardieu (née Guignot), died in 2006. He was the brother of actress Julie Depardieu, as well as half-brother of Roxane and Jean Depardieu.
Personal life
Depardieu had a relationship with actress Clotilde Courau from 1997 to 1999, before marrying actress Elise Ventre on December 30, 1999. They had a daughter and divorced in 2001. Depardieu was known to have had a strained friendship with his popular father, which he outlined in his 2004 autobiography Tout Donner (Giving Everything). Depardieu was reported to have reconciled with his father right before his death.
Guillaume was often referred to as an enfant tragic by the French magazine Paris Match, and by others, he was described as eccentric and bohemian. He had already served two prison sentences for drug offenses, including dealing heroin and stealing by 1993. He was suspended and sentenced to nine months in jail for attacking a man with a rifle in 2003. He was jailed in 2008 for operating his scooter while inebriated.
Depardieu was killed on his motorcycle in 1995 after he ran over a suitcase that had fallen off a car and onto the pavement. He underwent knee surgery to restore knee damage. The wound was infected with Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Eleven subsequent operations were launched in the hope of removing the infection and saving the leg; however, these efforts were ineffective, and Depardieu's leg was amputated above the knee in June 2003.
Career
Guillaume filmed the film with his father several times over his career, beginning with his first film role, aged three, in Claude Goretta's That Wonderful Crook (Pas Si Méchant Que a) in 1974, Gérard's son. In 1991, his father appeared in Tous les matins du monde, followed by Count of Monte Cristo in 1998, and Aime Ton Père (A Loving Father) in 2002. He received a César Award (France's national film award) in 1996 as the most promising newcomer in Les Apprentis. He began rebuilding his career with the films Don't Touch the Axe (Ne Touchez Pas La Hache) and La France in 2007 and appeared in the 2008 film De la guerre.
