Ghostemane was a member of local hardcore punk and doom metal bands while growing up in Florida.
After starting his career as a rapper and then finding success in underground, he moved to Los Angeles, California. Ghostemane's blend of rap and metal made him famous on SoundCloud, alongside other underground artists such as Scarlrd, Bones, and Suicideboys.

Early life
Eric Whitney was born in Lake Worth, Florida, to parents from New York on April 15, 1991. Whitney grew up in West Palm Beach, Florida. He was especially interested in hardcore punk music as a youth. He learned to play the guitar and appeared in many bands, including Nemesis and Seven Serpents. While high school, he played football, according to his father, who died when Whitney was seventeen years old.
Whitney came to rap music when he was the guitarist in the hardcore punk band Nemesis, and a bandmate introduced him to Memphis rap.
Personal life
Poppy, a born in October 2019, became a dating musician and YouTuber. Poppy announced on social media in July 2020 that the two were engaged. In late 2021, the two married and called off their engagement. Skye Boysen aka Skyefires, an American model, is currently engaged to him. He revealed on social media on July 3, 2022, that he and his new partner, Skyefires, would be a father.
Career
Whitney spent time in various B2B sales roles prior to his musical career. Whitney moved to Los Angeles, California, in 2015, after she found that not musically thriving in Southern Florida. He also resigned from his position as a result of his inability. Whitney travelled with JGRXN and formed his group Schemaposse, which featured artists such as Craig Xen and Lil Peep.
Whitney Schemaposse left Schemaposse in April 2016, after just 1 year with the company. With his single "John Dee," he subsequently released his self-produced album "Blackmage" and his first cinematic music video. Whitney eventually began to collaborate with fellow Florida rapper Pouya, who made the video for "1000 Rounds" with Ghostemane in April 2017. As of May 2021, the video went viral, and it has over 29 million views as of May 2021.
Whitney's song "Mercury: Retrograde" saw more success in late 2017 when art collective TRASH GANG created and released their 1930s cartoon edit music video. The cartoon was a 1933 Betty Boop short, Snow-White, with Cab Calloway as a Koko singing St. James Infirmary. The video has since risen to over 419 million views, making it his most popular single.
In October 2018, he collaborated with Zubin to debut a track titled Broken. N/O/I/S/E, his seventh studio album, was also released in 2018, in which many of the songs are inspired by industrial metal, nu metal, Marilyn Manson, and Nine Inch Nails. He unveiled his new project, Baader-Meinhof, a lo-fi black metal band in which he is the sole member (credited as Eric Ghoste). Ghostemane is also the sole producer of his former fiancée Poppy's Christmas album A Very Poppy Christmas, which was released in December 2020.
