Dona Vidugalage Dona Geetha Kumarasinghe (born 5 July 1955 in Badulla) is a Sri Lankan film actress and Politician who was born in Badulla, but it was not until Neil Rupert's Lassana Kella that first appeared in veteran filmmaker K. A. Perera's 1975 film, Wasana Kella that was first shown first.

Since then, she has appeared in more than 80 films, winning the Sarasavia Best Actress Award four times in 1991, 1996, 2000, and 2004.

She has also been given the Sarasaviya Most Popular Actress Award several times.

Early life

She was born on July 5th, 1955, in Hamburugala village, Sri Lanka, as the eldest of the family. Wijepala Kumarasinghe started at the Navy Headquarters as a warehouse manager. He wrote several columns, Buddhist essays, and served as a deputy editor of the 'Baudddhaya' newspaper for some time as a journalist. Udulawathi Siriwardena, her mother, was a housewife. She grew up in Bentara, Elmya, and received her education at Eluthgama College, Aluthgama, and Holy Family Convent, Kalutara. During her college years, she was also a natural member of the netball team. Nayana, Kokila, Dammika, Dinusha, Shyama, Shyama, and two younger brothers: Thilak and Upendra.

Aruna Wickramapala, her father's older sister, was married to Hinni Appuhamy's aka Maliban Mudalali's brother A. G. Wickramapala. Geetha's father died in 1983 and his mother in 2016.

She demonstrated her natural gift for singing and dancing as an infant. In the play Chora Pabbatha, she played 'Kundalakeshi'. Despite the fact that her father was against a film career, she did not accept one. In the meantime, the neighbors demanded that Geetha be submitted by her parents to the 'Avuru Sundari' competition arranged by the 'Savasa' newspaper in Bentota. After the behest of a family friend, Amitha Abeysekara, that was asked, dad gave the permission. Geetha won the competition in 1973 at the age of 16. She was always with her mother during the beauty pageant. Anula Wickramapala, her aunt, was also a friend of legendary director Lester James Peiris. Before her debut film was released, she had signed 21 films, a record in Sri Lankan cinema. Geetha made his debut in K.A.W. in 1975. Vasana Perera was Perera's Vasana, but it was Neil Rupasinghe's Lassana Kella that opened first cinemas. Kumarasinghe, who is often cast in uncomfortable roles, has also appeared in foreign films from Pakistani, Hindi, Japanese, Tamil, and French versions. In Mohana Punnagai, she appeared opposite Sivaji Ganesan, who was released in 1981. She has received critical esteem for her performances in Pembara Madhu's 'Dotty' and 'Punna' in Lokuduwa and 'Amali' in Ran Diya Dahara, as well as 'Dulcie' in Pembara Madhu. Political career

At the 2010 presidential election, Geetha was a vocal supporter of Mahinda Rajapakse and was appointed as the chief strategist to El Salvador's electorate. She lost in the 2010 general elections and criticized election fraud for her loss.

In 2014, she ran in the provincial council elections and took oath as a consultant with the Southern Provincial Council.

Geetha contest arose from Galle District for the 2015 Parliamentary Election. She was elected to the 15th Sri Lankan Parliament by winning 63,955 preferential votes.

The Sri Lankan courts disqualified her as a member of parliament on May 3rd, 2017 because she had dual citizenship in Sri Lanka and Switzerland. No one can be elected to the parliament of Sri Lanka under the constitution of dual citizenship. She applied in supreme courts, but supreme courts have ruled that she is ineligible to serve as a member of parliament because she held dual citizenship in Sri Lanka and Switzerland.
