Fernando began singing at a young age and became well-known after appearing in "El Festival de la Voz," an amateur television talent competition.
After that, merengue legend Wilfrido Vargas recruited him to join his group Los Hijos del Rey, but Fernando and the group will soon be parted after his fame grew greater than the organization itself.
He would then enter a period of heroin use and loneliness, but he never stopped performing, recording some of his best music during that time.
Villalona's "El Color de tu Mirada" with American singer/songwriter Victoria Daly was released in 2012.
Rene Brea in the Dominican Republic directed the music video.
In 2013, it was nominated for "Best Music Video" at the Soberano Awards.

"Quisqueya," "No Podrás," "Msica Latina," "Retorno," "Me he Enamorado," and "Me he Enamorado" were among his 1990s hits.
He has had some health issues preventing him from doing a challenging job in recent years.
However, despite the fact that he hasn't been able to perform regularly, he's certainly still is Dominican history's most popular merengue performer.
He was married to Evelyn Jorge, a Puerto Rican woman, and they have a daughter named Paloma.
