Eric Charles "Erock" Friedman (born June 28, 1984) is an American singer and songwriter best known as the current guitarist for Tremonti, as well as a backing vocalist for Creed and an American singer.
He appeared with the band on both their 2009 and 2010 tour with Skillet, as well as their 2009 United States reunion tour with Staind and their 2010 Tour with Skillet.
He is the former lead guitarist for Sublime and also the former lead guitarist for Daughters of Mara.
In 2008, the Substitute and Daughters of Mara were disbanded.
He also appears on lead guitar and co-wrote for Hemme, as the rock band Hemme.
Friedman, the youngest guitarist to be fully supported by Fender at the age of thirteen.
Mark Tremonti's first meeting with him was at a NAMM show where his then boss introduced them both.
They crammeted at one of the Rivera amp booths and discovered that although they had different tastes (Tremonti being heavily inspired by metal and Friedman Blues), they complimented each other.
Career
Friedman's teen guitar hero Kenny Wayne Shepherd pulled him onstage for a jam session after his set at the Galaxy Theatre (Santa Ana, CA) in 1996. He began playing in his own blues band, The Eric Friedman Band, and was endorsed by Fender at the age of 13. Eric was able to support bands like Buddy Guy, Jimmie Vaughan, and Jonny Lang. At 15, he had a developmental contract with Steve Vai's label Favored Nations.
Eric formed Blacsun in 2000, which featured Brett Hestla's demos (Virgos, Dark New Day). He joined the band Subpoena in the same year. In Due Time, his debut album, was released. Friedman left prior to the band's second album, Immortal Verses, which was released later this year, just after the band disbanded in 2008. During this period, he was also the guitarist for Daughters of Mara, who later broke down in 2008. He then proceeded to compete with former TNA Impact Wrestling actor Christy Hemme and Garrett Whitlock, a former Subway drummer.
Friedman, rather than Kenny Shepherd, has been inspired by Creed and Alter Bridge Mark Tremonti and has since formed a close friendship with Tremonti, who has requested that Friedman serve as Creed's rhythm guitarist on tour. Friedman claims he grew up listening to Creed's music, particularly their debut album My Own Prison. He provides rhythm guitar and backing vocals while on tour with Creed. On "What If," he also performs a guitar solo with Tremonti. He appeared on Creed's record-breaking live DVD, Creed Live. Creed is also confirmed that it would debut "More Than This," a new song that will feature Friedman on guitar. Friedman has appeared in interviews as well as numerous commercial photographs and videos. All of this has led to rumors of Friedman officially joining Creed, and the band has confirmed that they have discussed this, but that no further details have been confirmed. Friedman returned to Creed in 2012 for the band's 2 Nights Tour.
Friedman appeared on Mark Tremonti's debut solo album, All I Was, playing guitar, bass, and singing background vocals. He appears in "You Waste Your Time"'s music video. He's a new member of the band and was a member of Cauterize, which was released in June 2015 and Part of Dust, which was released in April 2016.
Friedman joined Projected in 2012, alongside Sevendust's John Connolly, Vinnie Hornsby, and Creed/Alter Bridge drummer Scott Phillips. Human was their debut album on September 18, 2012. Ignite My Insanity, their most recent creation, was released under Rat Pak Records on July 21, 2017.
