Eren Derdiyok (born 12 June 1988) is a Swiss footballer who plays as a striker for Göztepe S.K.

Early life

Derdiyok was born in Basel, Switzerland, to an Alevi Kurdish family from Turkey. He also holds Turkish citizenship.

From an early age, he competed for BSC Old Boys Basel, a football team based in Basel. Derdiyok is a strong striker who can also play as center-back at 1.91 m (6 ft 3 in) and is a good striker. He began his playing days with the Swiss minnows Old Boys, who scored ten goals in just 18 appearances. In the Swiss Cup 1–6 loss over FC Basel on October 22, 2005, he scored a goal.

Club career

As a result, FC Basel developed his goal scoring instinct and snapped him up in 2006 at the age of 18. In a cup match against FC Aarau on March 14, Derdiyok played his first team debut on March 14, 2007. He made his League debut just four days later against Aarau. Derdiyok was primarily used as a backup during the 2006–07 season, playing only one full game and averaging of 220 play minutes. He made 17 appearances in the U-21 team this season. Bayer Leverkusen's signature on May 28, 2009, after a solid season in the Swiss top flight and a string of success for the national team, he remained a member of Diediyok, a major European club, including Galataray and several Serie A clubs, ultimately joining Tranquillo Barnetta. TSG 1899 Hoffenheim has expressed their intention in signing Derdiyok in April 2012. Derdiyok signed a deal with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on May 2, 2012, the 2012–13 season ended. Since the late season, Hoffenheim had been searching for a new striker since the winter transfer window, Vedad Ibievi, who had been recovering, rejoined VfB Stuttgart in the winter transfer window.

Derdiyok scored on his debut for Hoffenheim on July 21, 2012, defeating SV Waldhof Mannheim 2–0. In a 2–1 loss to Borussia Mönchengladbach, he made his league debut in the season's first game, scoring a goal. In a 3–1 loss against Wolfsburg, Derdiyok will fail to score his first goal before matchday 11 (on November 18, 2012).

Despite this, Markus Babbel regretted his signing him and Tim Wiese after his poor show at Hoffenheim. Following this, Derdiyok's playing time was shortened shortly. Derdiyok's higher wages were affecting the club's finances, and he was no longer included in the first team under new manager Markus Gisdol's reign. Derdiyok had abdominal pains that had barred him from the 2012–13 season. "We have to be ashamed of us, especially me," Derdiyok quoted as explaining his demise: "We must be ashamed of us, especially myself." We can't enjoy the remaining games in such a way. "I get my bread here, but I have to do something in exchange."

Derdiyok was one of nine players to be held out for the club's training camp ahead of the 2013–14 season after one season with Hoffenheim. In an interview with Sport1, Derdiyok described: "We've all been disappointed." It's not that I'm the bogeyman. "have not been followed with at the end," he was told. "Much has been done wrong." Derdiyok left Hoffenheim to join Süper Lig Turkish side Kasmpaşa just a few days after the end of the Bundesliga season, just days before the new season begins. International career

Derdiyok made his international debut for Switzerland against England at Wembley Stadium in London on February 6, 2008. He scored with his first touch of the ball to equalize, but the team lost 2–1. He was selected as part of the Switzerland squad to compete in UEFA Euro 2008, and was the youngest player to participate in the tournament at 19 years old. He made a big difference at the tournament and became more popular as a result of it. He was also in the Switzerland 23-man squad for the 2010 World Cup, where he appeared twice. Switzerland defeated Germany 5–3 in a friendly at St. Jakob-Park in Basel on 26 May 2012. Derdiyok scored his first international hat-trick.
