Enver Leif Gjokaj (en-VAIR joh-KY, born February 12, 1980) is an American film and television actor.
He is best known for his appearances in Joss Whedon's science fiction television series Dollhouse and as Agent Daniel Sousa on Agent Carter.
Early life
Gjokaj was born in Orange County, California. His father is Albanian, and his mother is American. Bekim, the older brother of Gjokaj, and Demir, the identical twin brother. Both Gjokaj and his brother attended Amador High School in Sutter Creek, California, where Gjokaj appeared in numerous plays and variety shows. Gjokaj earned a Master of Fine Arts from New York University's Graduate Acting Program at the Tisch School of the Arts. He was a semi-finalist for Tisch's Vilar Global Fellows Program while he was a student at NYU. He received a Bachelor of Arts in English from UC Berkeley in 2002.
Career
Gjokaj took on Victor on the television series Dollhouse in 2009, beginning in 2009. Anthony Ceccoli, the Dollhouse's real name, is a "Active" (or "doll") inside the Dollhouse, who is assuming several personalities as a result of intense technological imprinting of memories. In a second-season episode of Dollhouse, his identical twin brother Demir guest appeared alongside Gjokaj in a dream sequence.
Gjokaj has since appeared in the films The Express: The Ernie Davis Story starring Dennis Quaid, Taking Chance with Kevin Bacon, and the Eagle Eye opposite Shia LaBeouf. He appeared in the made-for-TV film Filthy Gorgeous and also appeared in the television series The Book of Daniel prior to his series regular appearance on Dollhouse. He has appeared in episodes of Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Family, and The Unit as a guest on Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Community, and Unit.
Gjokaj was given a patent in 2012 for a focusing device for motion picture cameras. In NCIS: Hawai'i as Navy Captain Joe Milius and in Resident Alien as Joseph, Gjokaj has appeared in Emergence as Agent Ryan Brooks and in Resident Alien as Joseph in recurring roles.
Gjokaj has appeared in multiple Marvel Cinematic Universe films. Gjokaj appeared in The Avengers in 2012 as a New York City police officer. SSR Agent Daniel Sousa appeared in two seasons of Agent Carter (2015-2016). In the final season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (2020), he went back to reprise his role as Sousa.
