Early life
Hampshire was born in Montreal in 1979. After attending a Les Miserables performance with her mother, she became interested in acting at age 11. The vice principal of her all-girls Catholic school, who praised her achievement in a school theatre production, bolstered her hopes. She migrated to Toronto to pursue television and film roles at the age of 16. She was accepted into the American Academy of Dramatic Arts immediately after high school, but she didn't attend because it conflicted with a film opportunity.

Since 1996, Hampshire has been actively involved in the Canadian film and television industry. She has appeared in The Canadian series This Space For Rent, Carl2, and Northern Town. In the 2006 romantic comedy It's a Boy and a Girl Thing, she appeared alongside Kevin Zegers and Samaire Armstrong, in which she played Chanel.
