Divya Bharti Life

Divya Bharti (25 February 1974 – 5 April 1993) was an Indian film actress who appeared in a number of commercially successful Hindi and Telugu motion pictures in the early 1990s.

She is known for her versatility, vivacity, and beauty, and is considered one of India's most popular and highest-paid actresses of her time. While doing some modeling work, Bharti aspired to a career in film at a young age and began receiving calls at age 14.

After several failed attempts, she made her debut in the wildly popular Telugu drama Bobbili Raja (1990), aged 16.

She went from Bollywood to Bollywood films in 1992 after appearing in a string of high-grossing Telugu films, including the action thriller Vishwatma.

Bharti went on to be commercial success with celebrated actors such as Govinda and Rishi Kapoor in films including Shola Aur Shabnam and Deewana, respectively; the latter of which earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut.

She appeared in 14 Hindi films between 1992 and 1993, bringing her total number of Hindi cinema to a new low.

Despite being a teen, Bharti played adult roles in all her films. Bharti died on April 5, 1993, aged 19, after falling off the balcony of her fifth-story apartment in Versova, Mumbai, from head injury.

She was at a high point in her career at the time of her untimely death, which sparked widespread criticism from the Indian film industry and the audience.

Early life

Bharti was born in Bombay on February 25, 1974, to Om Prakash Bharti and Meeta Bharti. Kunal's younger brother and a half-sister Poonam, who was the niece of Om Prakash Bharti's first marriage, were present in her child's. Kainaat Arora, the actress, is her cousin. She spoke Hindi, English, and Marathi fluently. She was known for her bubbly personality and doll-like looks in her early years. She attended Maneckji Cooper High School in Juhu, Mumbai. Bharti started as a restless student at school and completed the 9th grade before embarking on acting.

Personal life

At director Sajid Nadiadwala's home in Bombay, she met director-producer Sajid Nadiadwala through actor Govinda, and the couple married on May 10th, 1992 at a private function in the presence of her hairdresser and friend Sandhya, Sandhya's husband, and a qazi. According to reports, she converted to Islam. The relationship was kept private in order not to have an effect on her lucrative film career.

Divya Bharti Career

Acting career

Bharti, then a ninth-grader, was signed by filmmaker Nandu Tolani in 1988 for one of his films. She had intended to make her film debut in Gunahon Ka Devta in 1988, but she was shot and replaced by Sangeeta Bijlani. Kirti Kumar (Govinda's brother) discovered Bharti at a video library and was eager to thank her for his venture Radha Sangam opposite Govinda. Kumar worked with producer Dilip Shankar and was able to free Bharti from her job. Bharti was dropped and replaced by Juhi Chawla after months of studying dancing and acting lessons to prepare for her role. Kumar's obsessiveness over Bharti and her childish temperament were thought to have caused her replacement. Bharti's career was stalled until D. Ramanaidu, a Telugu film producer, gave her a leading role in the film Bobbili Raja opposite his son Dagbati Venkatesh. For her debut on film, she opened fire in Andhra Pradesh. In the summer of 1990, the film was released and became a hit. Bobbili Raja is one of the most well-known and legendary Telugu films. Later this year, Bharti appeared in Nila Pennae, opposite Anand, in a Tamil film. The film was both artistic and economic.

Bharti came in second in box office rankings, next to Vijayashanti, who has been dubbed "The Lady Superstar and Lady Amitabh of South Indian cinema." Bharti had back-to-back hits with action comedy film Rowdy Alludu and drama Assembly Rowdy opposite actress Chiranjeevi and Mohan Babu, respectively, in 1991. Bharti began filming A. Kodandarami Reddy's action romance Dharma Kshetram for Sri Rajeev Productions later this year. Since being based in Telugu, Bharti was able to work with Telugu film actress Nandamuri Balakrishna.

Though Bharti celebrated her success in Andhra Pradesh, Bollywood's top producers were eager to have her signed for films. Vishwatma, Rajiv Rai's 1992 film Vishwatma, was Bharti's first Bollywood film. In a Filmfare interview, she said she loved her role as Kusum, Sunny Deol's love interest, in the film and that she loved it as a "very good actress." While the film was an average box office performer, it gained Bharti's greater audience and support from film critics. In the film Saat Samundar, Bharti was the most notable for the song used. Lawrence D'Souza's romantic drama Dil Ka Kya Kasoor, in which she appeared alongside Prithvi, was released a week later. The film was not a box office hit, but it was praised for its music.

David Dhawan's romantic action drama Shola Aur Shabnam was published in March 1992. It was a hit in India, marking Bharti's first big success in Bollywood, and attracted critics and became a box office. She found more success in Raj Kanwar's Filmfare Award-winning love story Deewana, which starred veteran actor Rishi Kapoor and newcomer Shahrukh Khan. It was one of 1992's biggest hits. Her Deewana appearance was highly praised. According to critics, Bharti belonged to a new breed of Hindi film actors who shrank away from stereotypes. Bharti was named in the Filmfare Award for Lux New Face of the Year. Bharti's Deewana work was reported to have earned her more respect by July 1992.

Bharti appeared in several Hindi films this year, including the action drama Jaan Se Pyaara, romance drama Geet opposite Avinash Wadhawan, action Dushman Zamana alongside Armaan Kohli, and action drama Balwaan, which marked Suniel Shetty's debut. The former had moderate success. She appeared in Dil Aashna Hai, Hema Malini's romantic drama in October, but it didn't do as well at the box office. She portrayed a bar dancer who is trying to locate her birth mother. She has been lauded for her service as a scholar of the arts. To not disappoint her Telugu viewers, Bharti decided to appear in one Telugu film a year. Chittema Mohan Babu was first introduced in early 1993 and starred the famous couple Bharti and Mohan Babu. She co-starred in the ensemble film Kshatriya, the last film to be released during her lifetime, alongside Sunny Deol, Sanjay Dutt, and Raveena Tandon. It was announced on March 26, 1993.

In films she had not completed, including Mohra (played by Raveena Tandon), Kartavya (played by Tabu), Vijaypath (played by Tabu), Dilwale (played by Raveena Tandon), and Andolan (played by Mamta Kulkarni). She was more than halfway through the filming of Laadla at the time of her death, and the film was reshot with Sridevi portraying the role.

She had been filming for Rang and Shatranj shortly before her death; these were released posthumously on July 1993 and 1997 respectively, with moderate success. Even though she had finished filming her scenes for both films, a dubbing artist was used because she never had the opportunity to dub for the films. Tholi Muddhu's incomplete Telugu film Tholi Muddhu was partially completed by actress Rambha, who marginally resembled Bharti and thus was used as her body double to complete her remaining scenes; the film was released in October 1993.
