Early life
Devin Copeland was born in Pontiac, Michigan, on June 4, 1970. He spent the majority of his childhood in St. Petersburg, Florida, before moving to Houston, Texas, in fourth grade. After graduating from high school, he spent the remainder of his youth in New Boston and Houston, before settling in Houston. In seventh grade, he smoked marijuana for the first time; marijuana would later have a major influence on his music. Copeland, a teenager, became involved in breakdancing, dancing with many dance crews until he began rapping, which became his primary concern. Rob Quest, a rapper and record producer Jugg Mugg, met him after graduating from high school. The Odd Squad was formed by the threesomes.
Musical career
The Odd Squad was later known as the Coughee Brothaz) before forming Rap-A-Lot Records, which later became Rap-A-Lot Records. The label is known for housing hip-hop artists such as Geto Boys, Scarface, and Too Much Trouble. Before going solo in 1998, Copeland went on to be a part of Scarface's Facemob. Copeland has ten solo albums: The Dude (1998), Just Tryin' to Inhale (2005), To The Time (2004), To the Road (2005), Gotta Be Me (2006), One for the Road (2010), Somethin's Ride (2014) and Somethin' With (2019) He performed on several guest appearances, including on Dr. Dre's "Baby Phat" in 1999, De La Soul's "I'm Back" off Boss of All Bosses in 2009, Slim Thug's "After Party" off The Gates Mixed Plate in 2010, Young Jeezy's "Higher Education" off the late 2011 album Thug Motivation 103: Hustlerz Ambition.
He appeared in a documentary titled Screwed In Houston, which was released by VBS/Vice Magazine in 2007, chronicling the Houston rap scene's history.
He ended his 15-year association with Houston-based Rap-A-Lot Records in 2008 after he decided not to renew his deal. Razor & Tie, an indie company, was signed later this year. Devin is now available from E1 Entertainment, formerly Koch. Devin appeared in the stoner comedy Highway 420, in which two pot smoking buddies set off to find the country's best bud on the legendary Highway 420. 2 Chainz, Uganda, Smoke DZA, Tha Dogg Pound, Slim Thug, Curren$y, David Banner, Asher Roth, and others appeared on the soundtrack.
