Davy Klaassen (born 21 February 1993) is a Dutch professional footballer who competes for Werder Bremen and the Netherlands national team.
He is usually deployed as an attacking midfielder for both club and country.
Club career
Klaassen began his football career with local amateur side HV de Zebra's, where he played until 2003 when he moved to HSV Wasmeer. He was accepted into the Ajax Youth Academy a year later. Klaassen played for the Ajax youth team from 2011–12, as well as finishing as runners-up to Inter Milan in the NextGen Series (the Champions League equivalent for under-19 teams) after losing on penalties (5–3) following extra time.
Klaassen made his UEFA Champions League group stage away draw (0–0) against Olympique Lyonnais on November 22, 2011 after Lorenzo Ebecilio was dismissed in the 85th minute. He made his Elysisie debut against NEC on November 27th, only 42 seconds after being called on to play for the Ajax A1 under-19 squad. He made his debut in the Ajax's starting lineup on December 11, 2011, owing to starting center Midfielder Theo Janssen's contracting the flu. Klaassen attended the entire match, which resulted in a 0-1 victory over Ajax over RKC Waalwijk.
Klaassen played in the Dutch Eerste Divisie in the 2–0 victory over Telstar on August 5th, 2013 while playing for the newly promoted reserve team Jong Ajax in what would be the first match for the reserves in the second class of professional football ever. In a 1–2 away win over FC Eindhoven on September 20, he scored his first goal for Jong Ajax on September 20, 2013. In the 3–0 home victory over FC Utrecht on October 6, 2013, he scored his team's second goal in the 59th minute. Klaassen scored his first hat-trick while playing for the first team in a 4–0 victory over NAC Breda on December 7, taking home the match ball and awarding him the Man of the Match award. Klaassen was promoted to the vacant number ten shirt for the forthcoming season following the departure of Ajax captain Siem de Jong.
Klaassen was named Ajax' captain for the 2015-2016 season, after the departure of Niklas Moisander.
Klaassen signed for Everton on a five-year contract worth £23.6 million on June 15, 2017. He was given the number 20 jersey at his new club for the 2017–18 season. In the UEFA Europa League third qualifying round first leg, he made his first official appearance for Everton in a 1–0 victory over MFK Ruomberok. Klaassen made his league debut for Everton on August 12, 2017 when his club defeated Stoke City 1–0 at Goodison Park.

International career
Klaassen made his debut for the Dutch national team at youth level, playing for the Netherlands U-16 team in the 10th edition of the Tournoi Val de Marne '08 on October 28th, while scoring his second goal for the Netherlands in his first international match. Klaassen scored in his second appearance for the Netherlands U-16 in the same tournament, as well as a 0–1 victory over France U-16. Klaassen made 5 appearances for the Netherlands U-16, scoring 4 goals. In friendly matches against Ukraine U-16 and Ireland U-16 as well, Scoring two more goals. Klaassen made his debut for the Netherlands U17 team in a friendly friendly match against France U17 that ended in a 1–0 loss for the Dutch. In his 8th appearance, he scored his first goal for the under-17 team, against Greece U17. In addition to playing in the 2009 edition of La Manga Cup, he also played a significant role in the Netherlands qualifying campaign leading up to the 2010 UEFA European Under-17 Football Championship. Klaassen made his Netherlands U19 debut against Germany U19 on September 2nd, resulting in a 2–2 draw. On ten November 11, 2011 in his seventh appearance for the under-19 team, he scored both his first and second goals in a qualifying match against Moldova U19, with the Netherlands failing to qualify for the final tournament in Estonia.
Klaassen received his first call-up for Jong Oranje, the Netherlands' under-21 squad, as well as the friendly match against Austria U21 four days later, due to injuries sustained by Ruben Ligeon, Yassin Ayoub, and Jürgen Locadia for the Netherlands U21 selection. On October 10, 2013, he made his under-21 debut for the Dutch, which helped the Dutch beat Georgia 6–0, when he took the field to replace Luc Castaignos in the 81st minute of the match.
Klaassen made his debut with the Netherlands first team under new head coach Louis van Gaal at the Stade de France in Paris on March 5, 2014, in a friendly match against France ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. In the 72nd minute for Wesley Sneijder, the Netherlands lost the match 2–0 to the French, he was brought to him.
