David Jacobs Career

Life and career

David Jacobs was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and the elder of two children (with a younger sister). His Jewish parents had modest means, and Jacobs' father worked as a household appliance salesman. Jacobs received a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art at Baltimore City College High School and received a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art. He moved to New York City, where he worked as an illustrator and researcher for Grolier's Encyclopedia. He soon began working as a freelance writer of nonfiction books, the most notable of which concerned architect and entrepreneur Buckminster Fuller. He also wrote a children's book about Renaissance artists. He co-wrote the non-fiction book "Police, a Precinct at Work" with Sara Ann Friedman in 1975. The book was based on six months of the authors' ride-alongs with NYPD from the 24th precinct.

Lynn Pleshette's marriage to actress Lynn Pleshette produced one child, Albyn, but it ended in divorce. Later, he married Diana, with whom he has two children, Aaron and Molly. Jacobs moved to Los Angeles to be closer to his daughter and tried his hand at screenwriting. The script for a new unidentified pilot mini series was later called Dallas. The miniseries was so popular that the show was picked up as an on-going series & cemented his career as a writer and producer.
