Early life
David Lawrence Brewster, Jr., was born in New York City and spent his life in East Harlem, where his mother lived, and Queensbridge, where he lived with his aunt in his late adolescence. The rapper is of Bajan, Louisiana Creole, and Dominican descent. In addition,, he played basketball, soccer, and football at Springbrook High School in Silver Spring, Maryland, near Washington, D.C., and formed a close relationship with current Brooklyn Nets all-star Kevin Durant.
Personal life
As a teen, East was a member of the Rollin' 30s Harlem Crips, a subset of the larger Crips bandwagon. East began serving a prison term, and during this time, he converted to Islam and declared himself a Muslim. College basketball career
East attended the University of Richmond and then transferred to Towson University, where he played basketball. While attending Towson, East was dealing with issues with coaching staff that ultimately culminated in his decision to leave the university. Career

His music caught rapper, Nas, who was looking for a way to contact East in 2014. East, Nas' younger brother and fellow rapper Jungle, who were immediately introduced the two, was unveiled to Nas. East was the newest signee of Nas' new Mass Appeal Records by the summer of 2014, alongside Bishop Nehru, Fashawn, Boldy James, and Run The Jewels. East revealed on March 8, 2020, he was working on the third installment of the Karma line of mixtapes.
