Daniel Richard Powter (born February 25, 1971) is a Canadian musician.

He is best known for his self-penned hit song "Bad Day" (2004), which debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for five weeks.

Personal life

Powter lived in Los Angeles, California, for 20 years before 2021, where he now lives in Oregon. He has three children: two daughters and one son. He is divorced.

Powter admitted in July 2013 that he was sexually assaulted by a female babysitter for three years, beginning at age 7 and eventually moving to heroin and alcohol to get rid of his guilt and shame.

When Powter isn't making music, he loves spending time with his children and his interests include fly fishing, yoga, surfing, and Raymond Carver short stories.

Powter is a fan of the NHL. He used to be a fan of the Edmonton Oilers as a youth and now is a Los Angeles Kings fan with season tickets.
