Daniel Macpherson Career

Career

When competing in the Kurnell triathlon in southern Sydney when he was 16, MacPherson was discovered. Joel Samuels appeared in the soap opera Neighbours shortly after, beginning in 1998. MacPherson was named Most Popular New Talent in 1999 shortly afterward. MacPherson returned to the United Kingdom to appear in a British production of the musical Godspell in which he alternated lead roles of Jesus and Judas with English entertainer Jonathan Wilkes. MacPherson and a close friend Robbie Williams lived in Notting Hill during this period. After completing the series, MacPherson was given the opportunity to play PC Cameron Tait in the British drama The Bill, which he appeared on from 2003 to late 2004. He appeared in The Mysteries as Jesus after leaving The Bill. This was a drama based on a medieval mystery play cycle in which every scene was changed to a separate part of Canterbury Cathedral.

MacPherson returned to Australia in 2005 to perform the Australian version of The X Factor. Despite the series's poor reviews, MacPherson got a lot of praise. Reports revealed that MacPherson was mistakenly knocked unconscious by a crew member during one of the season's shows. After returning to hospital several minutes later, MacPherson continued to perform the show that night despite being heavily impaired. He claims he "remembers nothing at all" from the night's broadcast. This was unnoticed by the public. On Australia's Network Ten in February 2006, MacPherson produced a three-part series named Killer Sharks. He appeared in a British/Australian film entitled Tripping Over in late 2006. In Australia, the program appeared on Channel 5 in the United Kingdom and Network Ten in Australia. Brooke Satchwell, an ex-Neighbours co-star of MacPherson, appeared on Tripping Over. Tripping Over received numerous praises and the show was a hit among Australian commentators, but it was not renewed for a second season due to funding constraints.

After playing a part in the City Homicide of Network Ten, MacPherson left Network Ten in October 2007. Between 2007 and 2008, the show became Australia's number one drama between 2007 and 2008. During the fourth season, MacPherson left City Homicide. After former host Daryl Somers resigned at the end of 2007, the Seven Network revealed on August 3rd that MacPherson would take over the hosting role on Dancing with the Stars. This was his first live hosting gig since The X Factor in 2005. Although regular male host Larry Emdur was on holidays, MacPherson co-hosted The Morning Show with Kylie Gillies on May 17, 2010, while regular male presenter Larry Emdur was on vacation. Before the program was cancelled, Macpherson hosted Beat the Star, a localized British and German television series.

In 2011, MacPherson returned to hosting season 11 of Dancing with the Stars in the first half of the year, before filming a new "Australian Western" style show based around Bushrangers. Jack Keenan, the show's protagonist, appeared alongside Zoe Ventoura, and MacPherson played the lead role and the show's protagonist. Wild Boys debuted to strong audience numbers of 1.67 million viewers. This was not to last, and the Seven Network decided not to produce a second season of the show in November 2011. In Shane Abbess's sci fi film Infini, MacPherson played the lead role of 'Whit'. Macpherson's success in the lead role was universally praised for its vivaciousness. In 2015, MacPherson and Abbess reunited for another science fiction film, SFV1, with MacPherson appearing alongside American actor Kellan Lutz. MacPherson had been given the role of Arion in MTV's forthcoming fantasy drama series The Shannara Chronicles in February 2015. MacPherson appeared in a television special commemorating Neighbours' 30th anniversary, titled Neighbours Reunite, which aired in Australia and the United Kingdom in March 2015. MacPherson resigned from Dancing with the Stars in 2014 to concentrate on his film career; his replacement was comedian Shane Bourne.

MacPherson, a fill-in co-host on The Project with Carrie Bickmore, appeared on The Project in 2016.
