In an email to RingTV, WBA president Gilberto Mendoza announced that if a deal had to be made by 5 p.m. on December 7, or a purse auction would be held on December 19 in Panama. With Golovkin receiving 75% and Jacobs 25%, the WBA declared a purse bid of $400,000 later that day. Although purse bids were announced, Loeffler said he would keep talks, hoping that a deal will be reached before the purse auction. Golovkin weighed in at 159.6 lb, the official weigh-in, a day before the fight, while Jacobs weighed 159.8 lb. Jacobs declined to compete for the IBF title by missing a fight-day weight check. Golovkin was allowed to fight Martirosyan as long as he would meet Derevyanchenko afterwards. Golovkin was disqualified from his IBF world title for failing to adhere to the IBF's guidelines on June 6. Although the IBF gave Golovkin an exception to combat Martyrosyan, the Golovkin family was not allowed to sanction the fight, Golovkin's team was able to begin negotiating and combating mandatory challenger Derevyanchenko by August 3, 2018. Canelo's poor showing and Buatsi's inability to entice have failed to excite yet... WE learned about the boxing weekend

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 9, 2023
When the sport's proclaimed king was overwhelmed with the country's return home, he faltered on his homecoming in Mexico, a weekend that held so much hope for boxing fell flat. Canelo Alvarez returned to Guadalajara on Saturday night for the first time in a dozen years, and although it was a great occasion for himself and his faithful followers, the pound-for-pound giant did not cap it off in style by dismantling Ryder. The Brit, who was not a pushover, caused him a lot of trouble when he went the distance with the feared Mexican on his home turf.

Canelo Alvarez, a canelo alvarez from Guadala, is honored as he and challenger John Ryder gain weight

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 5, 2023
JEFF POWELL IN GUADALAJARA: Canelo Alvarez and John Ryder raised the curtain on a grand stage of a neo-classical theatre before their super-middleweight title match. The courteous discussions within were more appropriate to the rococo setting. The thousands of children invited for the occasion were seated on the roof as their Canelo and his English rival weighed in as the mariachi band flooded the auditorium with patriotic music. Ryder weighed in exactly at the 168-pound limit. Canelo's first fight on home soil in nearly 12 years was half a pound under. In Akron Stadium on Saturday night, the squeals of delight as the Mexican hero took off his shirt would cause blood-curdling roars.

XCLUSIVE INTERVIEW BY MATT DAIVES: John Ryder spoke to Mail Sport ahead of his showdown against Canelo Alvarez on Saturday, claiming he has the potential to be the undefeated super-middlweight champion. For the first time in nearly 12 years, the 34-year-old flies to Mexico, where Canelo will face opponents on home soil for the first time in nearly 12 years in front of about 50,000 knockout fans. 'All the pressure is on Canelo,' Ryder said. 'I am not being pressured on me.' It's his first return to his hometown in a ten-years. I'm coming off a career-best year, while he's likely to be out of a career-worst.'
