Damiere Byrd (born January 27, 1993) is an American football wide receiver for the Arizona Cardinals of the National Football League (NFL).

He played college football at the University of South Carolina for the South Carolina Gamecocks.

College career

In 2011, Byrd, a true freshman for the South Carolina Gamecocks football team, was a wide receiver. Byrd had accumulated 1265 yards on 68 receptions (18.6 yards/catch) with ten touchdowns during his senior season in 2014.

While at South Carolina and later competed for the South Carolina track team, Byrd was voted the fastest player on the team.

Professional career

Since his left calf muscle tightened up on him, Byrd only ran the 40-yard dash on South Carolina's Pro Day. Byrd, who had a track & field background, was able to put up some numbers, finishing the short shuttle in 4.03 seconds and the 60-yard long shuttle in 10.90 seconds, quicker than any other time on record at the 2015 scouting combine.

Byrd was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Carolina Panthers on May 8, 2015. He was released by the Panthers on September 5, 2015. Byrd was accepted by the Panthers' practice squad on September 7, 2015, where he spent the remainder of his rookie season. The Byrd's Panthers of February 7, 2016 Byrd's Panthers competed in Super Bowl 50 on February 7, 2016. The Panthers lost by 24–10 to the Denver Broncos in the game.

On February 9, 2016, Byrd agreed to a reserve/futures contract with the Panthers.

Byrd made the initial 53-man roster in 2016, but was inactive for the first five games before being released on October 14, 2016. The next day, he was recalled to the practice squad. On December 29, 2016, he was called back to the active roster.

Byrd's left arm was broken on a reverse play during a game against the New England Patriots on October 1, 2017. He was then put on the injured reserve two days later. On December 2, 2017, he was activated off the injured reserve to the active roster. Byrd returned 103 yards, a franchise record, and scored the Panthers' first kickoff-return touchdown since 2011, earning him NFC Special Teams Player of the Week. However, Byrd sustained a lower leg injury during the second half of the game and was then put on injured reserve on December 26, 2017.

Byrd, the Panthers' primary punt returner, debuted in the 2018 season. Before suffering a broken arm in Week 12, he played in eight games before being banned from football in eight games. On November 27, 2018, he was put on injured reserve.

Byrd joined the Arizona Cardinals on March 26, 2019. He appeared in 11 games with three starts, with a career-high 32 catches for 359 yards and one touchdown.

Byrd signed a one-year deal with the New England Patriots on March 23, 2020.

During Week 11 against the Houston Texans, Byrd had six catches for 132 yards and a touchdown.

Byrd completed the season with 47 receptions, 604 receiving yards, 1 receiving touchdown, and two rushing attempts for 15 yards.

Byrd, a Chicago Bears fan, signed with the Chicago Bears on May 4, 2021. Byrd completed his Week 14 game against the Green Bay Packers with a 54 yard touchdown pass from Justin Fields.
