Career
O'Donoghue's early career was split between theatre and television work in Ireland and the United Kingdom. He received the Irish Film and Television Award for his role as Norman in "Home For Christmas" in 2003.
In an episode of season 3 of the Showtime historical-fiction series The Tudors, he appeared as Duke Philip of Bavaria. In the 2011 horror thriller film The Rite, he made his Hollywood debut with Anthony Hopkins. In a friend's home studio in Drogheda, he made an audition video for The Rite and sent it to the United States. He plays guitar and sings in The Enemies, a folk band that formed in Ireland in 2003.
In the second season of ABC's Once Upon a Time, O'Donoghue was cast as Captain Hook/Killian Jones, the love interest of the main protagonist Emma Swan. O'Donoghue was portrayed as the principal character in The Dust Storm, an independent film set in Nashville, Tennessee, as a musician named Brennan.

O'Donoghue was a member of the five-piece Irish band "The Enemies," which was formed in 2003 by O'Donoghue and a close acquaintance, Ronan McQuillan. The Enemies' self-titled debut EP was released on March 7, 2011 the Enemies' self-funded first album was released. On the band's first EP and debut album, he played guitar and sang backing vocals.
Despite being unsigned, GM had hired the band to record tracks for their "Chevy route 66" online campaign. The band worked on Coca-Cola's "5BY20" project. Sounds Big on the Radio was supposed to be released in March 2013, but it was later scheduled for 2014. He revealed in May 2013 that he was leaving the band due to the filming schedule of Once Upon a Time.
