Jack Gleeson Life

Jack Gleeson (born 20 May 1992) is an Irish actor who received critical acclaim for his role in HBO's Game of Thrones (2011-2014).

Since his retirement from film acting in 2014, Gleeson has been involved in the development of Collapsing Horse, a Dublin-based theatre company.

Early life

Gleeson was born in Cork, Ireland, and grew in Ranelagh, Dublin, where he attended Gonzaga College. Rachel and Emma, his two older sisters, who are both active in Irish theatre, are among his siblings. He took drama lessons with them as a kid and later appeared in youth theatre.

Gleeson attended Trinity College Dublin between 2010 and 2015. He studied philosophy and theology and was named a scholar at the university in 2012. Gleeson was a member of DU Players, where he met his future co-founders of Collapsing Horse Theatre Company at Trinity.

Personal life

Gleeson lives in Dublin, although he has lived in London.

Gleeson endorsed the movement to abolish Ireland's Eighth Amendment in May 2018.

Gleeson married Roisin O'Mahony, his longtime girlfriend, in a wedding in County Kerry, Ireland, on August 27, 2022.

In the Independent Theatre Workshop, Gleeson began acting at the age of 8. His first appearances in films include Reign of Fire (2002), Batman Begins (2005), Shrooms (2007), and A Shine of Rainbows (2009). He appeared in All Good Children in 2010 in a leading role. "Gleeson is the picture's major discovery," the reviewer for Variety magazine said.

In the HBO series Game of Thrones, Joffrey Baratheon appeared. Joaquin Phoenix's portrayal of Commodus in Gladiator (2000) as a deciding factor in his appearance.

When his time on Game of Thrones was over, Gleeson declared an intention to return from acting to pursue an academic career. After completing his role in Game of Thrones in 2014, Gleeson resigned from acting. In a chat, he said that although he had previously been keen on academic research, he had now "gone off that idea."

Gleeson was also a member of the Dublin-based Collapsing Horse Theatre Company during the 2010s, becoming a founder and producer. He appeared in the company's first theatre performance Monster / Clock, a children's theater performance that premiered in Dublin in 2012. He appeared in the company's "lo-fi comedy" Bears in Space, which premiered in Dublin in July 2014 and was included in the 2014 Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The show was well researched and appeared in Dublin and London in 2015 and off-Broadway in New York in September 2016, as part of Origin's 1st Irish theatre festival. In November 2019, the Collapsing Horse came to an end.

In 2019, Gleeson made two public appearances. Eleanor Tiernan and Alison Spittle performed in the Kilkenny Cat Laughs comedy festival in June. He made a surprise appearance at Over the Top Wrestling's Trinity Brawl 2 event in Dublin, where he played the face opposite Irish wrestler J Money.

In 2020, Gleeson appeared in Sara Pascoe's series Out of Her Mind, playing the ghost of Pascoe's abortion.
