Chuck Wicks Career

Music career

After dropping out of college two classes shy of graduating from Florida Southern College, he moved to Nashville, Tennessee, to pursue a career in country music. He began to hone his songwriting abilities, selling more than a hundred songs per year at one point, and Steve Holy's "Lead Me On" was released on his 2006 album Brand New Girlfriend. Wicks eventually attracted the attention of RCA Records executives, who hired him to a recording deal in late 2007. Wicks was also selected as a cast member of the Fox network reality television series Nashville while working on his debut album. However, Nashville was cancelled after its second episode due to poor ratings.

Wicks' debut single, "Stealing Cinderella," was co-written with George Teren and Rivers Rutherford, was released by RCA later this year. In August 2007, he performed the song at his first Grand Ole Opry appearance. University of Tennessee football coach Phillip Fulmer heard it shortly after it was announced. Fulmer said that the song "hit [him] like a ton of bricks," so he contacted Wicks, arranging a private performance at his daughter Courtney's wedding.

In its first official week of airplay, the single made the best debut for any new country artist in all of 2007. It was also the first country single on the charts in 2007, reaching a peak of number 5 on the country charts in January and 56 on the Billboard Hot 100. Wicks' debut album Starting Now was released on January 22, 2008 and peaked at 7 on the Top Country Albums charts. Wicks co-wrote all but one of the album's songs. In April 2008, the album's second single, "All I Ever Wanted," debuted on the album's second single, peaking at 14 by the end of the year. "Man of the House" was the third single to debut in January 2009, a top-five entry in February and a record peak at 27.

Wicks revealed on November 10, 2009, that he had started working on his second album. "Hold That Thought," the album's debut on May 17, 2010, and it debuted at number 55 on the Hot Country Songs chart for the week of June 5, 2010. It was followed by "Old School," which ranked number 51 on the same chart before Wicks left the brand in January 2011. Following Wicks' demise from the brand, the album remained on the charts, and CO5 Music began promoting it in late January 2011.

Wicks wrote a song called "I Don't Do Lonely Well" that captured Jason Aldean's interest and landed him a spot on his forthcoming album Night Train in 2012. Wicks was ecstatic and said it was a big surprise that Aldean (who would later become his brother-in-law) cut one of his songs to include on his highly awaited 5th album, which was released on October 6, the same year.

In April 2013, Wicks self-released an extended play called Rough. Vicky McGehee and Mike Mobley co-wrote "Salt Life" and co-produced the extended version with Ilya Toshinsky.

Wicks reported in December 2013 that he had signed with Blaster Records. "Us Again" is the label's first Top 40 country single since "Man of the House" in 2009. In May 2014, the Billboard Country Airplay chart reached its high point at 37, surpassing No. 37 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart. In September 2014, "Saturday Afternoon" was the second single released to country radio, but it did not chart. Wicks' first album for Blaster, Turning Point, was released on February 26, 2016.

Wicks co-hosts America's Morning Show on Nash FM with Ty Bentli and Kelly Ford.
