Christopher Tucker (born August 31, 1971) is an American actor and stand-up comedian.

In Brett Ratner's Rush Hour film series, he is best known for his role in F. Gary Gray's Friday and as Detective James Carter.

In the 1990s, he became a regular stand-up comedian on the Def Comedy Jam.

He appeared in Luc Besson's The Fifth Element, Quentin Tarantino's The Fifth Element, David O. Russell's Silver Linings Playbook, and Brett Ratner's Money Talks.

Early life and education

Christopher Tucker was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on August 31, 1971, and the youngest son of Mary Louise (née Bryant) and Norris Tucker. Tucker, one of six children, discovered early in life that humor had the ability to draw attention to himself both at school and at home. His father, who owned a janitorial business, was an independent businessman who operated a janitorial company. Tucker grew up in Decatur, Georgia, and after graduating from Columbia High School, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue his comedy career. Richard Pryor and Eddie Murphy, as well as others, made people laugh by doing impressions of Murphy, Michael Jackson, and others. Tucker grew up in a Pentecostal Christian household, as his parents were active members of the Church of God in Christ at the time.

Personal life

Destination Tucker's ex-wife, Azja Pryor, has a son named Destination. He divides his time between Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Atlanta. Tucker once owned a home in Montverde, Florida, but it was foreclosed on in 2011.

Tucker is a good buddy with co-star Jackie Chan on Rush Hour. He was also close to singer Michael Jackson at his 30th Anniversary Celebration; appearing in his 2001 album "You Rock My World"; and attending his memorial service. Tucker's career was also influenced by Jackson's singing and dancing to "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" in a scene in Rush Hour 2 and imitating Jackson's dancing style in Friday. In the 2008 primaries, he endorsed Barack Obama.

Tucker appeared in Professor Henry Louis Gates Jr.'s 2006 PBS documentary on African Americans' genetic makeup, African American Lives, which mainly focused on tales of Native American roots in African-American cultures. Tucker's DNA test findings revealed African, European, and "probably some Native American" ancestors. Tucker's patrilineal ancestry can also be traced back to Angola's Ambundu ethnic group, as well as a line of his mother's to Cameroon's Bamileke. He also traced his family tree back to the 1830s. Tucker and Gates were on a tour of Angola, the ancestral home of some of his ancestors.

Tucker began showcasing his comedy talents before an audience in local Atlanta comedy clubs until he decided to move to Los Angeles in 1990 to further pursue his stand-up comedy dreams. Tucker appeared on HBO's Def Comedy Jam in 1992. He made his cinematic debut in House Party 3 in 1994 and gained greater fame as a collaborator with N.W.A rapper Ice Cube in Friday the following year. He appeared in the films The Fifth Element and Money Talks in 1997. He appeared in Quentin Tarantino's Jackie Brown and appeared in the spy comedy Double-O-Soul, but was never cast.

In the martial arts action comedy film series Rush Hour, Tucker, a Hong Kong martial artist, appeared as LAPD detective James Carter. After the commercial success of the first Rush Hour film, he held out for a $20 million salary for Rush Hour 2, and was paid $25 million for Rush Hour 3. The latter was part of a $40 million two-movie deal with New Line Cinema that also included an unidentified future film. Rush Hour 3's earnings were also expected to be 20%.

After Next Friday (2000) or Friday (2002) for religious reasons, Tucker did not want to encourage others to smoke weed, but later explained that he didn't want to encourage others to smoke weed. He appeared in Michael Jackson's "You Rock My World" and made a cameo appearance in Tupac Shakur's "California Love" and was a cameo. Tucker appeared in the NBA All-Star Weekend's Celebrity Game on February 13, 1999. Tucker made a comeback to stand-up comedy in 2011. He's back to film in Silver Linings Playbook, co-starring Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, and Robert De Niro next year. Critics and audiences alike applauded Tucker's role in the film. Multiple nominations and accolades, including the Broadcast Film Critics Association Award for Best Cast, were given to the film itself. He also hosted the 2013 BET Awards. In 2016, he appeared in Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk.
